Hello!

I'm a young woman who recently underwent a trachea shave as well as a brow lift to help my appearance appear more conventionally feminine. Unfortunately, while the trachea shave managed to significantly reduce the size of my trachea, it is still clearly visible, enough so that friends have made points about it "still being there" and them being "unable to notice any difference". I knew my surgeon wasn't going to fully remove visibility for my trachea unfortunately, as he had told me pre-op that he would be unable to completely remove it and that removing too much could cause breathing difficulty. Furthermore, the scar he left is exactly where my trachea is, and seems to draw significant further attention to the area. Has anyone else gotten two trachea shaves? Does anyone have advice as to a surgeon willing to remove enough of one's trachea that it goes unnoticeable? I understand that there will always be some of your trachea left, but mine is still very prominent. I'm located in central Florida and proximity definitely matters to me, but, ultimately I am willing to travel if I need to in order to get the quality necessary to help me pass.

Welcome to Susan's Place. There is only one surgeon I can recommend and that comes with a huge catch. My surgeon made the same condition and it was because to take more off would cut into the larynx and destroy my voice. While I still have a bulge there, nobody comments or even notices it. As for the incision, I used makeup to cover it and nobody noticed it. There still is a mark, but it's faint enough that I no longer apply makeup to it. By the way, my avatar picture is after the trachea shave.

The exception to this is Dr Haben. One of the voice procedures is CTA where a wire is used to squeeze the larynx. This transfers support from the larynx to the wire so maintaining the front of the larynx is no longer an issue. With CTA it's possible to completely eliminate the bulge however I would only  do it  if CTA had been necessary for me to obtain the pitch I needed. Fortunately my voice could be surgical altered without CTA.
