Title: Halloween is right around the corner!
Post by: Charlie Nicki on October 01, 2017, 04:35:35 AM
I absolutely LOVE Halloween. Probably because I can take advantage of it and dress as myself and have fun without any judgment!! So are you planning to do the same this Halloween? What are you dressing up as?

I don't do Halloween.

I think that a lifetime of dressing in the costume of a male has turned me off dressing up.  Once I started understanding myself, part of me wanted to take advantage of Halloween to dress in women's clothes.  But the bigger part of me shuddered in horror at the idea of making a joke of who I really was.  I didn't want anyone to ever get the idea that my preferred clothing was a costume for their entertainment.  It would have trivialized the most important part of me.

Now that I am full time, it would be men's clothes that are the dress-up.  And I can't see myself ever wearing those again.  Too dysphoric.  I find it hard enough just to put on my old guy jeans to do painting or other messy work.  I could never go out in public that way.

If I ever feel comfortable dressing up for Halloween, it will be as a female character.

But I understand that, for those not yet out, it can be an opportunity to relieve the dysphoria for a day with impunity.  If that is the case, go for it!

Great topic! Never been a huge fan of Halloween but I found myself thinking it would be fun this year, more than ever, because I'm not out at work yet.  Kathy, your point about making fun of who you are is something I hadn't considered.  Gave me pause.

I'm coming out at work November 13th if everything goes to plan.  Think I'll wait.

This.

While I found it less stressful to shop for things at this time of year, I didn't want people to think it was just a costume.

One year I suggested to my wife I'd like to go to the company Halloween party as a woman. I just realized that that this was almost 30 years ago! I had dysphoria, though of course it wasn't called that then, but transitioning wasn't even on the table. I was cross-dressing almost daily, and she knew about it. She was worried for me that I'd end up feeling embarrassed if others made fun of me. We'd seen what happened the year before when a coworker wore a nurse costume with balloons for boobs that everyone was determined to pop. His bright red beard completed the ensemble. He was teased unmercifully at the party and for weeks afterward. Of course, that was what he was shooting for. I had wanted to be as authentic as possible - and back then it would have been a lot easier than now - but it's likely the teasing would have been much different, along with a lot of uncomfortable questions. I never ended up doing it. Probably for the best.

I did, however, use the holiday every year as an excuse to buy myself more clothes. I even went so far one year as asking the sales lady to help me pick out the right clothes because we were "all going to dress like a coworker we all liked." I still have that top, though it's 25 years out of date.

As for now, I completely agree with Kathy. In fact, I had to explain exactly that to my wife yesterday, in almost exactly the same words. Kathy, we think so much alike it's uncanny. I wish we lived closer together. I'd love to sit down over coffee and just talk.

I'm going to use this as an opportunity to shop for a ladies costume.  I don't think I'll buy or go dressed yet, but it w I'll Ll help me with ideas on what might look flattering on me.  Ideas I've always wanted to try were equestrian OR jackie Kennedy.

I've never liked Halloween personally.  I don't need a costume since people think I'm wearing one anyway. I've had people compliment me on the white makeup and before I got tinted lenses people would comment on the "creepy" contact lenses that were my natural eyes. So, no Halloween doesn't thrill me. But my boyfriend wants us to go to a Halloween party we've already been invited to. I'm kind of at a loss for a costume. My brother suggested I use a costume that utilizes my natural skin color. His suggestions were,  raggedy Ann, a wraith queen from the stargate TV show (gee thanks Tyler)  leave out my tinted lenses and go as a demon (thanks again dear brother) and Harley Quinn.  Do you all have any more suggestions? I don't care about the costume using my skin color, I just don't want to look like a idiot or a spaz.

Julia, with your personality you could pull off Harley Quinn easily.  Plus the costume is flattering and you get to carry a giant hammer to hit people with.  That would be great for you.

I really don't know anything about Harley Quinn and have only seen pictures of her. Hitting people with a giant hammer you say....this has possibilities. 😊

Julia, I don't know if this is what you are looking for but with your complexion, you might pull off a good Ghost Costume (https://www.halloweencostumes.com/ghost-costumes.html).

Bari Jo!  I just did some research on Harley Quinn. She isn't a super hero, she's a villain and she's really mean! What do you mean I have the personality to pull off her character!  LOL.

She's sarcastic, loving, and has a twisted sense of humor.  She is also incredibly perky, in a dark sort of way.  I almost bought a Harliquinn onesie today.  My favorite psychopath.

Exactly my thought too.  Everybody, and I mean everybody loves Harley Quinn, that perky twisted since of humor, laughs and everything, loves her Mister J.  I was thinking you could do the same voice for your Mister T.  Sorry, didn't mean to offend, Julia.  I thought you'd be flattered.  Harley Quinn is a favorite!

I've cross dressed for halloween plenty of times, and I'm going to be doing it again this year :) People actually expect it out of me now lol, but I'm not out yet even though i'm a couple months into HRT, so I wanna do it again this year and I wanna look amazing doing it. I'm kinda trying to drop hints that things are in the works, and once I do come out people will be like "oh, yeah, that makes sense...". I'd rather have that kind of response than "wait, what?! no way!"

I went as a witch last year and this one girl I was friends with started asking me about dressing up and that ended up leading to me coming out to her a few months later and telling her that I wanted to be a woman, and from there I felt like I couldn't go back, I needed to move forward and start telling my close friends about it and then do something about it, so yay!

idk what I wanna be this year though! I was thinking 50's waitress or a pink lady from Grease. I'm contemplating Elvira too lol. I really love this time of year, it's my fav  >:-)

OMG Halloween!  Last year was the very first time I wore a female costume.  I was a cute kitty.  I wore skintight black spandex jeans, a black ballet top, and a ballroom style kitty mask and I was soooo happy!  This year I am working on losing weight and shopping the Halloween stores for sexy costumes.  For too many years I spent Halloween entertaining others with parties, candy giveaways, building scary displays and trying to stuff down the dysphoria.

Now Halloween is fun!

Pretty much my thoughts.  Haven't worn a costume since college I think.  Don't think I've been to a Halloween party since then either so never was an issue.

Couldn't do it as a guy in a skirt and bad makeup playing it for laughs.  I'd have wanted to just wear a nice dress or skirt and look semi passible at least so it really wouldn't be a costume. Pretty much full time now so I'm always dressed as a woman.

I have thought in the past  that if I had needed a costume I could do a female character so I wouldn't have to play it for laughs.

Do tell.

I have to walk my sister down the aisle in a day of the dead themed wedding.  At least it's a costume.  She doesn't know I've decided to transition, otherwise she'd probably ask me to present as female, not ready for that no ma'am.

Every year I think about these elaborate costumes and end up getting a simple one lol...So I am going to be a sailor, a female one of course. I already bought everything and tried it on! Might share some pics in private when the time comes.

I hadn't even thought about Halloween! I usually just hid in my apartment every Oct 31st. OK, I actually hid in my apartment every night, but that's beside the point.
Hmm.... After browsing some costumes, I was seriously tempted by the lady Stormtrooper (Star Wars) costume, but one reviewer noted that there's no armor on the back. I think I have the backside to look ok in a tight black bodysuit, but I don't know. I'm really tempted by the movie version of Wonder Woman, too. I think I might be able to pull that off. That's one that being a tall girl is actually a good thing!

Last year, I could not do Halloween, as I was stuck in a wheelchair, since walking was so difficult before my back surgery. This year, I found a Victorian dress costume at Goodwill. Now, I'll have to see if I can steam punk it a bit.

I'm going as a beautiful merman. Mermaid scale binder, pearly crown, trident, the works. I can't grow a decent beard yet, so I bought a Davy Jones-style tentacle mustache to complete the ensemble and help me get read as masculine.

We all have that one dreamed costume huh? I have 2 actually.

Christina Aguilera in her Dirrty video (which Kylie Jenner did last year):

Both require to show a LOT of skin and being fit, so maybe in 2 years lol.

I love those outfits.  For me to be able to wear one well, I would need to invent time travel, and transport my consciousness back about 20 years ago, and take over my old body to stop all the damage I did to it.  Or maybe the invention of vat grown bodies to place my brain in.  Either way, not in this lifetime.

I actually don't care much for that outfit but I love that snake. But I would never hold any type of constirctor that close to my neck. That's a big snake and it could easily kill her very quickly if it wrapped around her neck. I saw a video of this woman who had a python around her neck as part of her outfit and it bit her right in the boob. It probably made holes in her implant. Lol

Last time I dressed up for Halloween was 1973...I was 8 years old.
I don't mind handing out candy when the kiddies come to my house...but that's as far as I go.

The kiddos and the parents love to see someone in costume handing out candy. A couple years ago, Phillip dressed like one of those dummies with red glowing eyes, sat on the porch, and then scared the tar out of trick r treaters that showed up. I was in a trampy steam punk outfit, so people focused more on me than the dummy.

How realistic was the costume? I've seen people with dead on dummy outfits and it really creeps me out. Ventriloquist's dummies are up there with mannequins on my list of things I'm convinced that will one day to come to life and kill me. :D

It was just a black robe-like outfit with a black mask. The red eyes lit up. It looked like one one the Halloween props sold at the big box stores.

Pumpkin shaped peanut butter cups make everything better, you should consider reincorporating at least the candy. ;D

I absolutely agree Dani!  I love Halloween!!

That's really cute.

Thanks! I didn't end up getting this one though  :-\

I have a secret FB group for me and some of my friends who know about my transition and I posted a few costumes and I asked for their advice and everyone liked this one more:
https://www.halloweencostumes.com/sock-hop-cutie-plus-size-womens-costume.html

My one friend made some good points, if it's cold I could wear tights and a sweater with this one and it would fit the costume! I like the waitress one better but I also kinda think I should stay away from anything food related seeing as how I used to really struggle with over eating, and I have some, uh, "friends" who are kinda jerks and I could see them trying to boss me around like a waitress all night or something like that, ew.

still a cute costume though! I have some black and white heels that will look cute with it!

Went to go buy that Harly Quinn pajamas....they didn't fit :icon_cry: :icon_cry2:

Oh well, maybe next time.  I still need to lose more weight anyway.

I will likely be working on Halloween.  I used to have a demon costume.  I tweaked it some, looks much better, and jumping out of the bushes at kids was fun too!  Now, I think my jumping days are over.  I'll find something cute to wear at work.  Can't be scary, might give a resident a heart attack, or cause a nervous breakdown.

I dressed up for a party last night!! If you wanna read about it I wrote about the experience in my HRT thread in the HRT section of the "Transitioning" forum :)

so while I was drunk at the party I did end up posting some pictures on facebook. I'm not out yet, i'm still presenting as male, but I've posted pics of me dressed as a woman for halloween before so I figured what the heck. this first picture got 41 reacts, 22 of which were "likes", 14 were "love", and unfortunately 5 were "haha". I got a few flattering comments too!

this next pic only got one like, but I think it's because I forgot to post it with the initial set of pics, I just posted it in the comments, but this is my favorite one! These girls are 2 of my absolute best friends and have been so supportive of me, I really love them, but for some reason we always have a really hard time getting a good pic of the 3 of us, but I think this one turned out great!! Probably the best pic of the 3 of us lol

Quote from: Steph2.0 on October 01, 2017, 08:08:59 AMAs for now, I completely agree with Kathy [concerning making a joke of our trans-ness]. In fact, I had to explain exactly that to my wife yesterday, in almost exactly the same words.

Well, I thought about it, and came to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with portraying a female character as long as it's not meant as a caricature of who we really are. So I decided to go as a female airline captain. I found a costume on Amazon that wasn't one of those "sexy stewardess" outfits, but when I went to click the buy button, found out they didn't have any left in my size. So I went the official route. I bought an actual women's pilot shirt - button-down with pockets and tabs on the shoulders, and bought a set of four-bar epaulettes to go on them. I already had a black skirt, and I borrowed a real airline pilot's hat and tie (with official pilot's food stains on it from eating in the cockpit) and wings insignia from a major airline from a neighbor. With my aviator shades I was one bad-ass aviatrix.

Aaaaand, I won second place in the costume contest as Captain Sillyburger: "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride... and prepare for a water landing!"

Hi Kiera,

I've been flying since 1984, but at the opposite end of the spectrum from airliners. I flew ultralights until 2008, when the Sport Pilot license came along, and got my ticket then. Still flying small stuff, two seat experimentals. I also won't own anything someone else has built, and that includes factory stuff. I build 'em myself, so I know it's done right. As for the attributes you mention: yeah, hungry, bad jokes, and cheap, but not military, drive a decent car (Mini Cooper!) and don't drink, except occasionally something with an umbrella in it (also a Parrothead).

QuoteI was briefly a "PA FA" !!

Thanks for the Pan Am links. They were one of the greats. The Boeing 314 flying boat (or any flying boat) was the catalyst for when I built myself a two-place seaplane. There's also another Jimmy Buffett link there.

Oh, and the Halloween uniform isn't for Pan Am. I fly for TransWorld Airways. (See? Bad jokes!)

I generally like Halloween, however, no Halloween for me this year due to my class baking cookies for the day of the dead(I think this is our 4th catering event this semester, the culinary department has been very busy).

However, I will probably be invited by my brother's girlfriend's family to go hang out with them at one of the town's events that isn't on Halloween, to which I will probably just reuse last years costume, and be a bottle of sriracha again...

My dream costume would be to dress as Chloe from Life is Strange, mainly because I want an excuse to dye my hair blue again.

I wore the Cap'n's uniform to another local transgender support group Halloween party last night, and this time I had a pax announcement prepared. Unfortunately there was no contest, so there was no chance to use it. Here it is, anyway:

=========
Good evening everyone. Thank you for flying *Trans*World Airways, and greetings from what used to known as the cockpit, but is now known as the box office.

I'd like to welcome you aboard this special charter, with greetings to the members of T-network who are flying with us today.

Your flight crew consists of myself, Captain Steph Sillyburger, our first officer Dis Phoria, and our chief flight attendant, interestingly related to our First Officer, U. Phoria.

Our route today has us departing HRT with our destination GCS, with stopovers at FFS and BA.

Following the WPATH laid out for us, we expect moderate to severe turbulence, plenty of ups and downs, and occasional headwinds. Our flight time is projected to be approximately one year.

Rest assured that we'll be watching the estra-dials to ensure we don't spiro out of control. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the finaster-ride.

Flight attendants, prepare the cabin for departure.
=========

Also, to enhance the uniform, I carried a cane with a red tip. I was a little worried about offending someone, but it was taken in good fun.

So I went to another party last night, and it was much different than last week. This time I didn't drink and I knew almost everyone there, but only 4 of the people there know that I'm transitioning. I posted my pics from last week on fb, so no one was surprised to see me dressed in a woman's costume, but I did do a different costume this time. Things were ok for a lot of the night but it did get pretty awkward at one point. My friend's girlfriend got pretty drunk and she was annoying everyone, and then she started creeping on me. she came up to me a couple times and rubbed her chest on me and kept asking me about my makeup and asking if she could touch it (NO! GO AWAY!!), and she kept hugging me and she asked me multiple times if she could "give me a squeeze", and she touched my butt a few times. it made me pretty effing uncomfortable and I'm wondering if I should say something to her bf about it. He was the host of the party and he's a really nice guy that I've known for a long time, so idk, I just really don't want that happening again, but it will be a long time before I dress as a woman for another party like that, so I dunno what to do. Then later on a couple of my old male friends came and just ignored me all night, even while I was standing right across from them for a while next to my other friends that they were talking to. weird. whatever, they're jerks and I've been wanting to distance myself from them anyways.

so here's pics of the costume... I only got one full body shot and it's very unflattering and it also cut out my feet, which I'm bummed about cuz I was wearing some cute red heels!

I'm not super happy with my makeup and hair, but oh well, I think I need a new shade of foundation. I wish I had a better pitchfork too but I went to the Halloween store Friday to get one and the line for the register was like 40 people long so I just turned around and walked out.

one thing I forgot to mention is that people did seem to say last night that I looked great, but I left a little early and I guess they voted for best costume in a few different categories and I found out this morning that I won for scariest costume :(

Wait, is being trans-panda pimp an option? Because forget being a girl, I want to do that now.

In my circles, it's mandatory, not an option.

so I just posted the pics of me in my costumes from here on instagram. They were already on facebook but IG is different cuz I can't block certain followers from seeing the pics, and the person I'm most anxious about seeing them is my sister. I feel like this is a good way to test the waters and gauge a response, so far I have a feeling that I will have a positive response when I do decide it's time to come out on social media. Happy Halloween everyone!  :-*  >:-)

So I posted the pics and so far I got 24 likes, which is pretty good for me on instagram, my posts usually get less than 15 likes. I know my sister saw these but she didn't "like" the pic. I told her about some cemetery pics I posted yesterday and she went and liked both of those posts and this one was in between those posts, and I KNOW she saw it because she asked if I threw a Halloween party and I told her that I didn't host one, I just went to 2 of them. She and I used to go for walks once a week over the summer but we haven't done it in a while, so I suggested that we go sometime next week if it's warm enough. I don't think I'll bring it up but if she does then I'll be willing to talk about it.

I wish more of you would post some costume pics, I love seeing people dressed up!
