Okay, so, I have pretty much everything I've been told that I need in order to schedule surgery. I have 3 surgery letters (1 from my Doctor, 2 from Therapists/Psychologists), meet the standards of care, I'm in good health, etc. I also have insurance through my employer which covers surgery.
But I'm not sure where to go from here. I would like to go to Dr. Brassard. However, I am not sure if I am supposed to contact my insurance company first or if I just contact Brassard's office first. I just want to make sure I do everything in the right order. I'm a bit lost.
When/how do I handle payment through insurance, how do I handle scheduling a surgery date, when is the pre-consultation/when do I have to meet with the surgeon? I'm just kind of confused about the whole thing. Could someone just kind of give the layout of the entire scheduling process/walk me through what you did, in order?
Meet standards of care ---> get letters ---> ? ---> ? ---> ?
I would suggest discussing this with your insurance company first to make sure the policy covers the surgery and the surgeon. Not all policies cover GCS and sometimes the insurance company has a select list of doctors they use. After that, you would contact the surgeon and they will inform you of any payments that are required to schedule the surgery. Many years ago when I had my surgery, full payment was required before the surgery and the insurance company reimbursed you for the surgery. Today more doctors accept insurance so you may only need to pay the deductible.
A couple of things that I did not notice on your list; putting together a support team to help get you through surgery and recovery, and, electrolysis in the surgical area. I do not know if Dr. Brassard requires it but if so, it can take a lot longer than you may expect to get the area totally hair free. Good Luck
