Title: old dead name
Post by: Doreen on October 10, 2017, 08:04:36 AM
My old dead name from 25+ years ago keeps popping up once in a rare blue moon ASSOCIATED with my actual name.  It doesn't happen often, but how do I stop this crap?  I killed that name before there was even internet for the most part.   It irritates me someone can do a google search and these associated names pop up.

It was changed everywhere... that I can even remotely think of.

As someone who is about to change their name legally (9:45 tomorrow!) Where does it pop up?  I would like to get out in front as best as possible.

Honestly, it will never be gone but a girl can try.

After I did my name change, a google search of either name turned up the court proceedings (not the newspaper notice). It's public record, not sure how you can get around that.

I understand court records but it someone pouring through old dust record from around the early 1990's and publishing this? Seems a bit conspiratorial lol.   This was before they moved everything online, or even stored in computers.

I can see all the electoral roll information from 1997 still up there with my old name, old address, phone numbers, age... None of that information I wanted public but there's no way to get it wiped far as I can see. The councils sell that information because voter information is considered public property at first, and then ends up in the hands of companies charging fees to look at it.

Good news for me is that name has no current association with me or my address - I've lived in 5 different cities since then, I'd still be very hard to find for all but those with access to my social security number.

Even though I legally changed my name almost a year ago, I still get mail with my deadname.  I suspect that my credit union and car insurance companies sold my deadname to some other companies.  Since they're usually for things like life insurance and MORE car insurance, once I open them to make sure they're okay to toss, I usually do.

Since I live in a different state than my birth state, I don't know if there are things out there with my deadname on them back home.  Unfortunately for me, since my birth state no longer allows you to change your gender on your birth certificate, I'd say that  things floating out there with my deadname still attached is more than likely. I still get random junkmail from the strangest places. Last week I got a magazine for people who collect farm animal ceramics. I've never bought a farm animal ceramic in my life.

I get fishing mags, and I think that's because I once bought some fishhooks from eBay. You give your address for anything and I guess you can only expect tides of spam.

No worried about that though - it's all in the old name. When I move, some poor individual will continue to get terrible sales catalogues nobody asked for.
