Title: Sleepyhead
Post by: Ellement_of_Freedom on October 21, 2017, 06:06:17 AM
Has anyone else noticed they sleep more and nap more on HRT?

Lately it's been happening a lot to me.. I have been very stressed from school and feeling under the weather so I know that's probably contributing to it as well.

I also figured my body is still going through a 'second puberty' so maybe that's why I'm sleeping a lot.

Mmm...my sleeping problems started around the moment I started HRT. But I wasn't in the best emotional state, so I couldn't say it's because of the hormones. It could help though....

Oestrogen is well known to affect thyroid function and it should be checked every now and again. So ask for a thyroid screen next time you see your Dr. An underactive thyroid can make you lethargic. It is easily and quickly corrected.

I wouldn't say I sleep more, but I would say I sleep better:)

The big change I noticed with sleep was losing weight.  When I was heavier, I needed sleep and needed to nap.  Now that I am thin I nap mainly to enjoy it.

I sleep a lot better, but not more, on HRT.  This is probably due to a lot of factors including the hormones, stress reduction, weight loss, diet changes, tobacco and alcohol cessation, and fitness increases.  So it's probably impossible to pin the better sleep on any one thing.

Will definitely be getting this checked. Thank you Cindy. <3

I would also add, that low T can cause fatigue as well.  Though I'm not entirely sure if or how that is combated by the increase in Estrogen.

Will be having my levels checked this month so I'll keep an eye out for that too.

Hard to say. At best I get 4-6 hours of sleep each night. So for me to nap during the day on my time off doesnt seem that odd to me as I tend to run during the week on deprivation.

Is it also not uncommon for women to have low iron levels which can also lead to fatigue not specific to HRT?

Definitely. On estrogen I am more sleepy especially in the afternoons.
