OMG I just know it's an excuse to stop NHS funding of SRS.  Just when I started hoping.  Sorry to sound so pessimistic.

I didn't interpret her remarks like that at all.

While I'm hesitant to trust Conservatives, I'm feeling somewhat optimistic about the changes to the gender recognition certificate and I can't imagine the NHS would remove SRS as surgical procedures on the NHS are funded based on clinical need, politicians rarely, if ever have a say.

Which is why we spend time every so often ranting about people getting treated for conditions that we don't agree with.

That's a relief.  I hope you're right.

When I heard this I also was immediately suspicious. Not to mention amused this coming from the "conservatives".

I do know that the funds currently allocated to trans care in the UK is stretched ridiculously thin, what with some people approaching 3 years wait times to get a hormone approval and every case of surgery needing to be pursued for cash allocation, etc. I would not be surprised if this wasn't an attempt to have more people possibly consider themselves "healthy" rather than "ill" from the condition and not seek treatment to lessen the burden on the services.

To be fair, some people are not suffering at all and yet might be convinced they are trans and need treatment by their friends. A govt. declaration like this needs to be tempered with better easily available information on the condition for such people. There is NEVER so much as a leaflet about it in any regular GP surgery!
