Its a tough one, but it is a tie between an Alaskan Malamute or a Rough Collie (Lassie) :)
pit bulls, and pretty much all other bulldog/bully breeds
closely followed by dachshunds
and none of my friends like pugs, but tbh i think they're definitely in my top 5. they're, uh... special.
also love poodles and afghan hounds
The one I have: A rescue mutt! German Shepherd/Border Collie mix, with a purple tongue like a Chow, about 35 lbs.

In the past I would have said a classic lab. But since my sister got her dog, I've come to really appreciate Australian Cattle Dogs/Blue Heelers. This particular one is a mutt, a cross between the ACD and a Rat Terrier with very heavy ACD traits. And jesus... she is smart (ACDs are ranked as one of the smartest breeds). I mean, terrifyingly smart. She house trained herself in a matter of days (humane society said she was absolutely not trained and we did virtually nothing), and a week later learned how to open doors. Her sense of object permanence goes well beyond anything I've seen in a dog before. Also, she is adorable and has cute little bat ears.
We have a fat Chihuahua and a rescue Lab mix! We love them both! I also like Boxers but no regrets with the ones we have plus they have fun with the cats...the cats may think otherwise but it is fun to watch them play!
We had a golden retriever as a child. But if I had the time/space, an Irish wolf hound would be cool. X
My favorite breed is poodle. But I have a little dachshund that I dearly love. I actually love all dogs.

Shepherds, like your sister's ACD and other working dogs, are smarter than I expected. My mutt surprised me. She's 14 and doesn't hear too well now, but when we first adopted her, she taught herself to listen for the turn signal in the car, figuring we were getting off the highway and she'd get a walk. When she realized that the signal didn't always mean that - sometimes it was just changing lanes - she'd wait for the signal, then jump up and watch my right foot. If I moved it to the brake pedal,
then she'd get excited.
They're smarter than they let on. If Dave Barry is correct, because of the way we tend to humiliate them with costumes, some day they're going to rise up and kill us all.

Blue Heelers, Huskies and Czech wolfdogs.
I had a Brittany Spaniel that had so much personality we could not stop laughing at him. He could count, he could throw a fit, he could fart. I would give him dog treats and he would start barking if I game him less than 4. His farts were worse than mine. He would throw himself on the ground and sigh if he didn't get his way. And he loved to chase the kitties I now have a Husky and she is the most lovable dog I have ever had. She has lots of energy but is so gentle. She can run all day.
We have had so many dogs of different breeds over the years.
I would have to say that I really like the Pomeranians and shelties but in reality it is any dog that I happen to have living with me at the time.
Durn, I want another pom.

If I said anything other than greyhound, I'd be in trouble. Ours is 8 years old; we've had her for 5. She's the laziest couch potato you've ever seen. But out in her running pen, does she ever love to run! She'll run right at me at 30 mph (50 km/h) and swerve at the last second, just for fun.
She's very smart, too. I tought her "go left" and "go right" the first week we had her. She understands the difference between "wait" and "wait for Mum". She figured out on her own the connection between the command "car coming" (move over to the edge of the road) and the actual presence of a vehicle, so now she moves over on her own initiative when a car approaches.
She's afraid of our cats, one of whom likes to usurp her bed.
Bully Breeds,Greyhounds, and Weimaraners. I currently have a 13 year old pitty that was a rescue. My next dog(s) will most likely greyhounds from local racing rescue groups.

I like all dog breeds, especially mutts.
My first dog was a Chihuahua named Rusty, technically my dads dog. She was a little fireball. Didn't care much for me being around, might have something to do with my pulling on her tail and ears when I was a toddler. I was outside playing and a Doberman decided it was going to have me for lunch. Rusty broke through the screen door, and ripped the dobie a new one. Got an ear, tip of the tail, and chased it down the street, and away from me.
My second was a Havanese, named Chaz. He played dumb to get free treats from my dad, but he could do all kinds of tricks, just not for my dad. He boxed by standing up on his hind legs and swinging his paws. Confused my wolf dog when he would bat his ears. He loved spaghetti, and is the only dog I've ever met that would toss a burger aside to get to the fries underneath. He only turned to the right, and would make circles if he wanted to go left. It was fun to watch him herd...as a dog bred to herd chickens, he would circle birds and make them move closer together, after a while they'd fly away, and he'd get a bit miffed, and huff and stomp his front paw.
My third was a wolf dog, Corynn. He was submissive to the havanese. Would grab mouths full of food, and drop it in the living room, and lay down and watch TV while munching the food. Also had to shower with me every day. His favorite toy was toilet paper.
Then I got Titan/Buddy. Had to give him to a family friend because he was to big for the apartments we were moving to. He is a black lab, and we get to visit him. He likes to travel under people who are standing by going between their legs. Drool box who loves to lick my head, and would wrap himself around my neck when I would sit on a couch. He has opened the door for my wife and I at our friends house. LOVES pancakes!
Finally there is my current dog, Clover. She's a beagle mix. Really smart, and very vocal. If you listen and talk back, she will hold a complete conversation with you. Her saddle has a clover shape to it. Poor thing suffers from allergies. Her favorite game to play is she will hide something and then expect my wife or I to go find it. Then we get to go hide I so she can find it. Back and forth with that game. She also likes to crawl under the blanket, and nip at our hands to make them jump around. I used to chase her with my hand under the blanket when she was a puppy, so that's probably why she does it to us.
I tend to find the dogs with bizarre behaviors, or make them have a bizarre behavior.
The one dog I wanted to get, but she was to big, was named Precious. She was a greyhound, who was beat into submission by her owner. She was rescued and taken to the pound. I volunteered there, and they were going to put her down because she would only crawl when on a leash. She coward to all people. I spent a lot of time working with her, and showing her that people aren't bad. She would play with me, but only with me. A professional trainer came and tried to work with her some more so she could get a home. She responded best when I was there with him too. He said that I saved her. I kept her from being put down by making her trust people again. Last I heard, she had gotten a home, Had a picture on the board of dogs with a new home, with a lovely younger couple, and a 10 year old boy. She looked happy in the picture.
I've always wanted a big German Shepherd. An American mastiff would be cool. Maybe breed the two? My dog is cairn terrier and daschund, but I swear he has lab in him as he likes water. He's only 20lbs, but he's like joe Pesci. He thinks he can take on anyone that doesn't belong and he knows and he's always right.

Akitas and mixes thereof. Massive, lazy throw rug dogs that rarely bark and instead make funny talking noises. They definitely need a firm owner.
Aussie cattle dogs are definitely the next favorite. Ridiculously intelligent and trainable. Super high energy though.

One of my daughters has an Aussie sheep dog. I don't like her. It's like she has adhd and is undisciplined. If one had acreage, it might make sense, but that dog is too much.

My first, and correct canine companion. Jewel was a surprise waiting for me when I came home from the hospital. I never saw a puppy with so much raw energy. She loved to slam into the doggie divider/wall I made to corral her in the kitchen area. Scratch... Scratch scratch -BAM! Wanting attention, you could just see the tip of nose over the divider. Letting me know it was play time.
She chases the mini horse now. They are buddies, but if Jewel had her way she would try to herd the horse to death. I bought one of those big exercise balls, omg. I swear she intentionally tries to smack it into my cranium a half dozen times per minute.
My sister loves border collies, she has three already and seems stressed out by their behavior, but wants another one. It's strange that she swears by their behavior as good family dogs but also they seem way too exuberant for her.
I love all dogs as long as they are cuddly :)
