Title: Any game devs up in here?
Post by: Blackstone2142 on November 03, 2017, 09:19:39 PM
I'm just finishing up my Master's thesis this coming month. I wasn't out or presenting in college, but I think by the time I start looking thing will be pretty different on my end.

Anyone got any tips that can help me along the way, as a trans woman just beginning my mental and social transition?

Even if is not exactly about game development anynthing helps.

I need to see if I can land a job that can offer me some good insurance since I just recently got dropped from my provider.

I'm based in SF and I am currently applying to places like Microsoft (retail) and IKEA while I work on my portfolio to apply for an industry job.

The gaming industry is becoming more lgbt friendly as of late.  I have some experience working on aaa titles, but when i was there it was very much a mens club and miserable.  My advice is show up to your interviews as how you plan on prssenting yourself.  I doubt any trans qusstions will be asked.  Instead, they let your work/reel speak for you.

Good luck.

Thx for the info Bari! What did you do for the AAA titles you worked on? If you don't mind me asking.

Sure, just don't ask which games as that will peg me.  I did lighting and compositing for prerender and in-game cinematics.
