Title: Injured shoulder

I injured my shoulder at work two weeks ago. This really sucks. I can't get my binder on without a lot of pain. So I don't wear it. Dysphoria and my handicapped body make me depressed. I'm still in a lot of pain, saw my gp yesterday. In two weeks I'll do an MRI on my shoulder. I can't work. I can hardly cook or even shower without pain. Yaaayyy happy times... :(

Tips on how to survive dysphoria?

Ooh  I can feel your pain from here.  I have a couple thing I do to help me which don't really require any effort.  I wear perfume, and when dysphoria hits I smell myself and that helps it go away.  For you find a favorite cologne to do the same.  Plus a trip to the fragrance counter is always fun.

The next is hoodies.  They are so gender affirming by color it's crazy.  Plus they feel great and will hide your chest while your shoulder recovers.  I'd get a dark color with maybe tribal patterns on it for you.  I wear pastels, blues and pinks for mine.

Those are the easiest.  I sometimes have to rationalize with myself while I'm dysphoric but that doesn't always work.

Ohhhhh, man! Well that stinks! I can understand. I don't tuck but, the thing that gives me anxiety and stress with my gd is when my beard starts coming back from the laser hair treatments. It is getting better but, towards the proximity of my appointment it starts inching out. I start shaving daily even though all I got is barely stubble. The thing I try to focus on is that my co-workers all know I am transitioning and know what I am doing. I am not one that is shy about sharing my story. So they don't try to point out things they know bother me. So this makes me calm down a bit and relax although I am still very aware of it. I agree baggier clothes will help out. That is how I hid that I was wearing a bra before I came out. Baggy clothes are great!! Good luck Tony!!!

I can't lift my arm. It is the muscle called supraspinatus that has a partial rupture. I hardly get my jacket on without swearing a lot.

Thank you for the tips. Wearing baggy cloths.

I feel for you Tony,

Both of my rotator cuffs (supraspinatus muscles) were damaged during my throat surgery (somehow and I'm not sure I want to know how!) and it has taken quite some time to achieve movement again.

As you may know, early treatment as possible is important, don't repeat the damage, I know that sounds daft but the tear can be due to repetitive micro-trauma and do follow the physiotherapists instructions. Seeing a physio may be useful in getting some help prior to the MRI's. Anti-inflammatories such as Ibuforen may help ease the pain.

I couldn't raise my arms to shoulder height but now I have about 90% movement and little pain so it does come good with care.

I know this also sounds daft, but when my physio gave me my schedule I worked really hard at it and it helped. She was a little surprised how we'll I recovered and made the comment that it was because I followed the program and most patients don't because it is painful and they give up.

Thank you Cindy. No physiotherapy yet. Doctor said rest and heal for two weeks. Then it is time for physiotherapy and MRI.

I will take the therapy very seriously.

I can relate to your pain. Bad neck, back, and shoulder make for a nasty combination. If I'm not careful it's debilitating. I've spent weeks on the couch unable to move. Grinding mess in my neck .. ARRGGHH. Thankfully (?) right now it's just my shoulder so, while painful, it's easier to manage.

ease it and work it best you can (don't force it) and I hope you recover quickly

I have been living with moderate - intense shoulder pain for years. The best thing you can do is go easy. It takes time to heal, and sometimes that time can be quite extensive. I would definitely look into Physical Therapy if I were you. As nice as medication can be to mask pain, the best way to heal would be with the help of a trained professional in improving functionality.

Time. It won't last forever. Focus on taking care of the injury and this will be something to forget soon enough.
