Well one Im off my hair medicine. Have been for 3 weeks. It basically made me feel suicidal, gave me insomnia and it was bad. Im all better now! It was however tough to get off something that did help my hair some. I was however happy to get off something that made me feel suicidal however.
I started to take melatonin to help sleep. I discovered it can block dht, lower t-levels and more. Stuff I didnt tell my doctor although she said that I can take it everyday.
I have had to go back to dealing with any hair thinning on my own more so. Ive had to abstain from anything sexual which Im fine with because I do get dysphoria from my genitals. I also know that it's a way to help lower dht.
Ive noticed that my hair like chest hair has thinned out alot and with the melatonin it seems to have thinned even more so it does work in a way many do not realize.
It's been though dealing with things recently. I however am staying positive about everything! I know that hair medicine was not doing much for me, was doing more bad but it did and still kind of does feel like a step backwards for me.
Are you talking about finasteride? There are other options you can try that don't have the same type of side effects, even if not generally as effective at actual regrowth. Ketoconazole shampoos don't help regrow hair, but can help to slow loss, and if you haven't tried minoxodill it may help. But if you were on a bigger med, I'm guessing you tried it.
At least you have hair , mine came in the post!!!!!! Always look on the bright side.

Coffee is a great dht blocker but only when applied topically

You can get the costco brand, kirkland, in store or off Amazon cheap, 26 bucks for a 6 month supply. It's worth a shot. It can dry your scalp out and cause irritation, so best to pair it with the aforementioned shampoo (1% available anywhere, brand name Nizoral, and the 2% prescription only) to sooth and do its thing at the same time. If you have longer or thicker hair though for the minox you may have to get the rogaine foam, its more expensive but it supposedly helps a ton for getting down into the scalp with more hair.

Hiding in plain sight im afraid
no coffee for me. I have glittery silver hair. I don't want to ruin it with mud color.
I have thick hair, unfortunately the top front is thinning and receding. I can currently hide it ... hopefully I caught it before it gets worse.
any natural (read inexpensive) remedies that won't dull my hair?

I agree about the foam. I started with the liquid, and it makes a greasy mess, even when I was using half of the amount marked on the dropper. If I used a full dropper it just ran off my head down my face or neck. And I was scared of getting it in my ears. I've got enough growth in there, thanks.
I use the Wally World store brand, I think it's about 28 bucks for a 3 month supply.
In any case, it is making a real difference on my crown.
Steph
Faith if you are worried about the coffee try the green tea it won't stain as much I also find the minoxidil works well it is not too expensive from wally world and even cheaper at costco for their store brands I use the sprayer not the dropper
