Title: Non-binary people: Which bathroom do you use?
Post by: PurpleWolf on November 17, 2017, 03:31:51 AM
Do you use the facilities for your assigned gender? If you are on hormones (like low T), do you then use the opposite, or...? Or just which ever feels the most comfortable at a given time? I know, that's the usual answer... But I'd like to hear if you have a preference? Or does either bathroom cause anxiety? Or is it just "whateva" - if neither one fits properly and you look androgynous anyway, so you feel as/as little confident in each one?

I know there are gender neutral bathrooms in some places - if one is available do you use that? But what about if you have to choose between male/female?

I use the male toilets as I look completely male now. It still makes me somewhat uncomfortable and unsafe; so I try to get through the ordeal as quickly as possible. I can't use the disabilities toilets if there are any as I'd feel bad using them and I'd get strange looks most likely. Never come across gender neutral toilets but then again don't go to any queer venues.

It's always a planning question for me.  I look quite feminine when I go out and have a list of places I know that have a "family" restroom, usually a one holer with a changing table, etc., and I always use that if possible.  Some other places have a one stall men's room and I watch for low traffic and will use that.  I never go in a ladies room because that could be very problematic here in Texas as long as I have male ID. I was just asking that of myself when we stopped at a rest stop on I-5 in CA.  I actually had a mental moment where I was thinking I should be using the women's restroom.

I always use the "family" restroom if there's one available. It's the most comfortable for me, and I'm also not going to get called out for using it. Otherwise, I use whichever restroom I seem to be passing as most that day. I'm more concerned about my safety than I am about my internal feelings about gender. I do tend to get anxious in both the men's and women's restrooms, since I know I don't pass 100% of the time either way.

I use the male one for now and wish I could use the female one so much. I honestly don't know what I'll do once I'm on estrogen since there'll be that phase of "who am i really to the public?"

Besides, female bathrooms have more stalls as I cannot physically use the urinals anyway so that's a huge plus. Any of you ever have to wait to use the bathroom when there are 10 urinals open at the mall and only 4 stalls?

I mostly use the female bathroom. I present female, so I find it suits the best. But if I'm having a very androginous day and there is a long queue at the female bathroom, I don't mind using the male one.

Forced to modify my previous post as I crossed a new plateau today and used the female restroom at a restaurant and a mall with no drama at all in spite of being side to side with other females.  I look and act the part and didn't get a second glance, a real relief for me.  Toni
