This is true for hate crimes in general since about mid 2016.  Something changed then that has enabled people to more freely express their inner bigotries.

I do wish they would be more explicit about motive in the stats, in showing how many of these were actually because the person was trans. The ones it references in the article sounded like it was unrelated to the murder.

There's been a big push for trans/nonbinary rights....and a lot of dissent on where those rights should begin and end of late.  It's sad, but kind of makes sense that the other side is pushing back....

It seems like every year we're told it's the worst year ever.

:

April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

They say the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. I say, climb aboard!

Think outside the voice box!

it could be hyperbole, or could be that every year is worse than the one before it for a few years running.

Either way, it's enough to make self defense and situational awareness training a worthwhile investment of time.  A lot of the killings are pretty out of the blue, but others probably could have been avoided with better judgement on the victims behalf.  Not to vindicate any killers...but we can learn from the mistakes of others.  There are times/places/activities that are higher risk than others.  Constant risk calculation may well keep us alive a lot longer

This may sound messed up but I don't think you can blame any political party or politician for this.

There are two different dynamics involved here. I really don't think you can blame Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton either. I have been to Trump properties and have seen LGBTQ working for him alongside cis people. I was a "->-bleeped-<- trucker" and would still get a big discount if I chose to stay in one of his Casinos after delivering a load of slots or furniture. I delivered their ->-bleeped-<- so they were grateful and it only cost a little bit more than a Holiday Inn. And yeah about me, you can tell.

Personally I think some are going nuts and want to prove some kind of point. The world is getting to be a bad place and politics should not divide us. I come from a different area than a lot of LGBTQ come from so my political views will differ than someone from LA or NYC. I have a BF and he is a cop and he loves a trans woman. OMG I pray every shift he comes home safe to me.

I think there is more going on because we live in a small southern town in a southern state that is red and I am accepted for who I am. I go shopping with other cops' wives and go out with all the other cops' spouses so that ain't no problem either. So where does the real problem lie? We know that trans porn is pretty popular especially MTF trans porn. so are they feeling guilty and feel they have to shut us up if they like us or are attracted to us? I do think it is deeper than politics because I am a member of the Log Cabin Republicans and even though some like Ted Cruz are asses not all are like him.

So I really don't think it is a political thing other than there are crazy, insane idiots out there. We are coming out and with that they get attracted yet don't want to be labeled as gay and then feel that we are threatening their manhood. O mean I am lucky because I have a boyfriend that can handle his own sexuality and likes what I got. :embarrassed: Then I am lucky again because I don't get tickets even for speeding and even though he tells his coworkers to give me one if going way to fast. :P

I do believe one thing that we need to do is learn how to accept one another as fellow human beings and all of our differences. Then we need to accept each other's identities and respect them. I mean right now a cop is about s right as you can get and  yet he works with lesbians, gays and other men that like trans women so in that respect I am not special. Believe it or not we don't live in a really big city either. So I really don't know what the problem is. ???
