I'm 6 months post. My surgeon did an amazing job appearance wise, and the scar is barely noticable. However, my laugh is deeper. It sounds like I have been a long term smoker.. I also cant sing higher pitch songs anymore.
Im still paying back my loan from srs.. so I'm just not sure what to do at this point, if anything ?
If a surgeon takes to much off in a tracheal shave, it can weaken the larynx and result in a lower voice. I still have a little bump because the surgeon was conservative so my voice was unaffected. If this happens, CTA voice surgery would restore the structure to the larynx bringing the pitch to it's original level or above. Dr Haben is one of the surgeons doing this but as CTA is an old procedure, I suspect there are others surgeons out there.
Thanks Dena, I will look into his information.
I, also, had a trache shave about 10 months ago. My surgeon left a little cartilage specifically so that I would not develop a deeper voice. My trache is much smaller than before and only slightly visible. Definitely in the female range for women of my age.
This is one factor we need to caution everybody who is considering a trache shave.
Another surgeon who does CTA voice surgery is Dr Mardirosian in Jupiter, Florida.
