Title: Stunning
Post by: DawnOday on December 03, 2017, 11:50:18 AM
Went to the Snoball for the Ingersoll Gender Center last night. About 200 attendees, at City Hall in Seattle. What a grand evening. A beautiful dinner if you like vegetarian food. I'm old school steak and taters. The opportunity to meet so many people just like me was so wonderful. We have a mix between young and old of about 4 to 1. I sat at a table that was 50 - 50 MTF to FTM. I wish I were more socially adept.

The kicker of the evening was when a CIS woman across the room came over and said. "You look stunning" The outfit, the hair and makeup. I was wearing a black dress with lace bodice and sleeves. Underneath the dress I wore lacy leggings. Since I did the makeup in the car, I did not go overboard. I had straightened my hair. I had bought some gold hoop earrings that I converted to clip on. My phone / camera went dead at the most inopportune moment. It was fabulous and for the first time I felt truly felt womanly. I'm still smiling it was such a great confidence boost. Just wish I had pictures. I wish all of you could experience this for yourself.

Sounds like it was great.  Glad you enjoyed it and still feel so good.  It is a pity about the pictures.  Hopefully, other guests took pictures and posted them somewhere.

Seems like more than a few of us are experiencing real satisfaction being ourselves, maybe that's the real Christmas present to us.  Very happy to hear how well this went for you.  Whether you really know it or not, you are classically gorgeous.  Toni

Yes, interesting how this happens to us. Just last week I was at a Lesbian Womens group in Victoria (at the Hares & Hyenas bookshop) discussing a book and one of the young lesbian women said Judith you look absolutely gorgeous today. I was wearing a pink , orange and white mini skirt (A frame) with red sleeveless top, orange high heel sandals, matching orange handbag, with my favourite OPI (Are we there yet) nail and toe nail polish.

Also in May I was in Marks & Spencer in Exeter in the UK and I had just stepped off the escalator and was heading to the ladies shoe section when a woman's voice behind me said, I hope you don't mind madam but I think that dress you are wearing is simply stunning. You look quite wonderful. I just love how you are wearing matching heels and handbag and your lipstick looks just perfect. I turned and it was the Fashion floor manager. Wow I felt like a million dollars (or is that UK Pounds!).

You had the "Pretty Woman" moment. You know that moment when even the Devil herself looks and admires.  I hope for such a day.

Dawn, that's a great story.  Don't you love it when a random stranger tells you how good you look?  You, too, Judith!  I love stories like that.

We were at the theatre last week, and I like to dress up for that.  I wore a flared skirt that is gray with shades of iridescent purple in it and embroidered flowers on the front.  It's quite flashy.  Black top with a sparkly purple sweater over it.  And my mother's pearls.  We had to squeeze past someone to get to our seats.  As we did so, the lady said she loved my skirt.  I felt a nice goose-bumpy buzz!  :)

What was truly wonderful is that I spent a lifetime never thinking I fit in. To get this affirmation, after a lifetime of inward struggle, is genuinely uplifting. I have only been out in public a handful of times, out of fear. The fact I am 6'4" and over 200 lbs did not make a difference for this one brief moment. At my age just acknowledging I am alive usually works. :D

I went to a Renaissance Faire a few weeks ago. I didn't have a period dress, unfortunately, just jeans, a cardigan, and my favorite "infinity loop" scarf. A lady at a concession stand couldn't stop complimenting me on the scarf. Happy dance!

There's another Faire coming up in April, and I have a beautiful Medieval dress picked out on Amazon. Need to get that ordered. Can't wait!

It is a wonderful experience. Hey, I just received a catalog Thepyramidcollection.com It has many Renaissance and Steampunk outfits and seems to be fairly priced. Worth a try.
