Title: MtoF problem wtith high heart rate
Post by: Lemon3 on December 11, 2017, 11:22:57 AM
hello I am MtoF and have been on spiro and estrodial for about 3 years. This past year I have had trouble with my heart rate going high in a short amount of time with any basic activity. Like walking my heart rate would go up 120+ in seconds. Sometimes my legs would burn going up the stairs to the 2nd floor of the house. I basically have no cardio.Any kind of exercise it feels like my heart can't keep up and I am not getting enough oxygen. I am fit and 125lbs at 5'7 and used to be able to jog 2 miles but I can barely walk now without my heart going out of control.

I have not changed gender marker on ID yet so when I get my blood work done the counts come back as low but I am told they are normal in the female range.

I have had 3 ecg, 24 hour Holter,  2 xrays, and everything they say looks normal.

One doctor says nothing is wrong but another one says that I have low blood volume causing my heart to work extra hard and he thinks it is the HRT.

So I am not sure what else to check because I sure as hell don't want to stop my HRT but this is a problem.

I need to go for my surgeries this year like FFS and a Orchi so I want to be well.

Here is some blood work from last week. I have it done every 3 months and they have come back with consistent numbers.

Thanks

If it is low blood volume you can fix that by consuming more salt and water.

Low blood volume caused by chronic dehydration would cause those symptoms.

Seems like the symptoms I had before they found out I had a bicuspid aortic valve which led to cardio myopathy. Congestive heart failure, stroke (TIA)   They had to put me on a pacemaker.  I have since started taking amioderone as part of my regime of taking 15 medications a day. I have taken Estradiol now for 16 months and have not experienced any problems with heart beat. Mostly because the pacemaker regulates my heartbeat 98%of the time. I went from 5 hours of basketball a day at 30 and hiking Mt St Helens to being able to walk only short distances at 33.

hi thanks for the replies. Wouldn't a ecg detect any issues with the heart? I have had 3 ecgs this year and a 24 holter (which is like a mobile ecg you wear for 24hrs).

In turn, most likely caused by spironolactone, IMHO. Double check with your pharmacist and doctors.

Studies suggest estradiol is actually cardioprotective. You can show this to your doctor.

Ann Clin Res. 1983;15 Suppl 38:1-121. (with oral 17-beta estradiol)

"Irrespective of the pretreatment blood pressure levels, heart rate decreased during estradiol-17 beta substitution. The change was most marked in hypertensive and borderline hypertensive women. Estradiol-17 beta treatment did not influence heart rate during exercise."

"Estradiol-17 beta substitution caused an increase in the blood volume in all groups of postmenopausal women."

"Cardiac output increased in the normotensive test subjects but decreased in the hypertensive and borderline hypertensive subjects."

I would not presume to give you medical advice but would urge you to keep working with them to find out what the cause of it is. I myself am on medication to slow my heart rate after finding it was consistently over 100 bpms lying in bed recovering from a major abdominal operation. I have been on it ever since and take a couple meds that bring my blood pressure down. One other thought crosses my mind and that is you sound as skinny as a rail at 5'7" and 125lbs. What do the doctors think regarding your weight? You also haven't mentioned your age which could also be a factor you doctors are taking into account.
Hope they figure it out for you soon.

Hugs,
  Laurie

I am drinking water and gatorade through the day maybe it is not enough? It would be great if it was something as simple as spiro. Because I have my Orchirectomy surgery set for the 29th of January.

I am 41 yrs old and have always been thin actually I have put on 8 lbs in the past year I think from inactivity or the Estrogen.

I would advise you not to drink the gatorade. It contains potassium and on spiro you need to limit your potassium intake. Just drink a gallon or more of water a day and salt as needed. If you body is low on salt, you will crave it and salt will start tasting really good.

My boss needed to drink water for a kidney stone issue and his solution was to use a measured container. He needed to empty that container once a day in order to ensure he was drinking enough water. If you are having difficulty consuming enough water, you might consider the container approach.
