Title: Hello I'm going to be Lexi.
Post by: Lexi Nexi on December 11, 2017, 02:19:33 PM
Well Hello!

I'm am going to be Lexi (I think and Hope most of the time). A few questions:

Can this site accept bitcoins as donations? People with them all of a sudden have money and I would like to donate. It seems strange a site this big/important has such a tiny budget and trouble making it. Plus its easy to donate bitcoin as the little wallet on my phone seems to keep growing (fingers crossed) and spending the money is easy. So easy to ask a person in real life for a dollar but so hard to get a penny online.

How many posts until the verification goes away? Its a shame that you have to protect it from stupid kids playing with the internet.

Welcome Lexi.  I'm glad that the Bitcoin boom has worked out well for you.  I hope that your plans to transition as Lexi also work out well.

Lexi, you are almost free of the security. The site works trough PayPal so any current accepted by PayPal can be use to donate or subscribe to the site.

The site is basically a one person operation and Susan operates the site out of a small house that she lives in. Your contributions pay for utilities and Susan's living expenses. We have a few large donations that have paid for equipment and some of the software. The remainder of the staff is unpaid and contributes their labor to the operation of the site. This allows Susan to really get a lot of bang for the buck and over the period of a day, this site could see as many as 7,000 users and guest. Very impressive for a shoe string budget.

You don't have to be a member of the site in order to make a contribution though most of the contributions are made by members. Last but not least, Donations are not required to be a member of the site. Many of our member are unable to contribute but contributions are appreciated.

I see but a bitcoin wallet is just a free download on your computer with a 15 digit key or QR code you can copy and paste or take a picture of with your phone type in the dollar or bitcoin amount you want to send confirm and its sent for almost no fee sometimes fractions of a cent. None of this signing you in with a paypal account, logging into your account and separate bank accounts and email confirmations and then paypal taking a 7.50% fee. Alot of bitcoin accounts are around 0.25% fee and only on one end. Beauty is you can just type the (your public account) address on the screen anywhere you want or just make a .jpg of a QR code, swipe your phone in front of the monitor, type your donation and send! Plus you can add the address into your google description so people can type it in directly fro the google search page. Obviously there is patreons which are monthly donations from as low as a dollar and up!
