Title: What did you get for Christmas?
Post by: Julia1996 on December 26, 2017, 10:30:44 AM
What gifts did you get for Christmas?  I got an iPod touch in pink from my dad. Tyler gave me a kindle paperwhite. I got a Pandora bracelet from Tristan, a really pretty skirt and sweater from his parents, a gift basket of bath and bodywork stuff from one of his brothers and perfume from his other brother.

Then I got an inappropriate gift from my great aunt. She lives in Florida but always sends us presents. I just wait until Christmas morning and open them with the others. Her gift to me was a norelco men's razor and expensive after shave. She gave Tyler the same thing. The razors looked like expensive models. I gave it to Tristan. Lol.  I should add that my great aunt wasn't trying to be mean. She has dementia and forgets things and gets confused. Half the time she forgets I transitioned. At least this year her gifts are age appropriate. Last year she gave Tyler and I Lego sets. I guess she forgot we were grown up now. But even if she goofs up the gifts it's the thought that counts and no matter what she gives me I always send her a thank you note.

I'm at an awkward moment transition wise so couldn't get the stuff I really wanted unfortunately. ;D Would have been interesting to open up presents around people I'm not out to and get like... makeup or a dress. So what I did get was a few practical things like a new lantern and standing fan (I have been using a lantern as a light for years when I get up in the middle of the night and have to have the white noise of a good fan, but the ones I had were ridiculously old and about to both fall apart) or my favorite gift of a set of cast iron pans. Also netted 3 games I want to play, which I will definitely make use of with the added free time I am about to have. Maybe distract me from transition woes for a few hours. ;D

My birthday is in February though fortunately so don't have to wait too long to shift the presents more towards stuff that I need transition wise. I'm going to really drop hints about something like money towards hair removal.

Our gifts from our son was early. We (Wife and I) got 1hr full body massages ... felt great.
Our daughters fight to get things for their family, they are off the hook. Just having them show up at our house with the grandchildren to spend the day is enough for us.

My wife got me three sun hats,  because I mentioned that I should wear something when outside (I have some suspicious skin coloring on my cheek bones :( ). Pink, light green, and blue. I took the pink straight away. Not that I don't like the other colors, it just happened to perfectly match the blouse that I was wearing.

She thought I might be embarrassed opening it in front of everyone .. nope, I mean, come on .. I was already wearing a pink blouse ;D

I got a really nice gift from the boob fairy.  A weekend growth spurt that gave me an additional 1/2"!  Maybe soon, I'll be an actual numbered size.

So, it was my first Christmas since I told the family.

Got some nice earrings from my wife, which was very cool and unexpected. She also gendered me correctly and did not use my male name for the most part .  That's been hard for her and also old habits can die hard,  so it was quite nice.

As usual,  got gift cards from my kids, though a different mix this year.  Golf Galaxy and ULTA beauty.  Both will be used.

And also that after we finished a 90 minute, 6 connection family Skype session, I did not recall hearing anyone use my male name, even an inadvertent slip up.

My girlfriend gave me some earrings.
One niece gave me a coffee cup
But the real treat came from another niece: a 25 pack of snack size bags of Takis chips (imagine spicy tortilla chips that are rolled up on themselves, they're pretty good and this kid is addicted to them).  But she ate one package, kept another for a snack, and individually wrapped every single one of the remainder, placed them back in the outer package, then wrapped the package.  This evil little brat is going places.   ;D

Absolutely 100% spoiled rotten  ;D

my best friend and I got eachother gifts from the same place and that made me really happy lol, there's a really cute local giftshop that has gourmet coffee beans and locally made sauces and salsas and they have lots of jewelry and some dresses too. I got her a gift card and she got me some coffee and mini-bottles of baileys to sneak in it hehe. there was some other stuff in the bag too but I can't recall what it was, oops. I saw her today though and she gave me a homemade coffeecake that she said was part of my present too :)

My sister gave me a $50 giftcard to JC Penneys, my dad gave me $100, and my mom gave me $50 plus some socks and slip on shoes for when I run out to grab the mail or check on my grill. She's always yelling at me to put shoes on and I never want to do it  :D I'm the kind of person who would rather take my socks off and go out barefoot instead of putting shoes on lol, but I'll actually probably use these.

My aunt and uncle gave me a giftcard to a gas station. A little odd but useful I guess

Since we decided to give both of us a major gift next year (I'll report later on that one), we only did a few small things directly for Christmas: I did get some professional makeup tools which was a very nice surprise. My wife very carefully watches out for my looks to make sure I blend in the best I can so some new tools will be awesome!

Some neat new headphones, kind of a nerdy mug, and a piano chair/stool. Someone of course sent me some obligatory socks with hearts on. And lots of things I shouldn't be eating.

My cousin gave me a framed picture of Snow White as a zombie.  I also have a painting of the queen of hearts with a chainsaw in one hand and bloody heart on the other, so they belong in the same room:)  my dad gave me a music player (think iPod only nicer).  I've turned to music three times in my life, so this is significant for me.  The first two times were to escape dysphoria.  This new time though it's for pleasure, feels great.  My mom gave me a gender neutral purse, and scarf.  I use both, but can already see eye rolls from my dad.  My sister gave me a coach purse that is girly.  It will be my rle level purse.  I'm not ready for that yet.

I got a self help book from my mom....... I get she wants to help me but I'm just mad she brought her nagging to Christmas.  Now I need to figure out how or if I should tell her why it's totally inappropriate and that it says she thinks I'm a failure which I already knew but was hoping she would leave it for a day. *Sigh* probably not going to say anything just don't want to fight anymore and I have less and less reason to try and help her understand. Guess that gap is getting wider.

In good news I got myself some cute earings! But I set a goal to get my ears peirced as a reward for finally getting my driver's license. Not quite there yet so they sit in a box for a little while longer.

Good wishes from friends. New skinny jeans and a pretty purple blouse. One more year beating the odds. We are up to 21 now,

From my mother, I received an 18" pearl necklace. My brother gave me a salt lamp (supposedly, it helps with my allergies). My sister gave me an echo dot and a smart plug. My husband showered me with so many gifts, I don't even know where to start.
Then, there is my late step dad's family. I got coffee mugs (and I don't even drink coffee), and a shower gel set (I always thought it means "you stink").
With the exception of what my hubby gave me, what I spent on gifts comes close to equalling the value of what I received. For once, I wasn't on the short end of the stick.

Well, since only my wife knows, she bought me a pair of long brown boots (and some very pretty lacy panties which she knows I love the more girly things!).  She also bought me a cute LBD and a nice top from JCP.  With the after Christmas sale, she bought me two more pairs of boots and is ordering another new dress!  I am excited but now I need to get up the courage to wear them more!  LOL

Cindy that is one pretty lady with a hand made scarf.
We do the dirty Santa thing.  Bring a gift, take a number, and steal each others gifts.  I sole my sister-in-laws gift, a battery pack multi-thingy for the car.  You know, it will jump start your car and fill tires with air and charge your phone and has a flashlight too.  Then my sister stole it from me.  Damn there goes Xmas.  I picked another gift and got a 7 in 1 rice cooker to pressure cooker thing.  Got to keep it and i actually thought of getting one.  So was good.
Funniest steal was 2 nieces ganged up on my brother to steal his tea gift pack.  It was bam, bam.  Girls are so devious.  My poor college student nephew got a huge electric griddle that he DID NOT need.  We made fun of him, but afterwards my sis-in-law swapped him for something more useful.
My giftS fell flat.  Who the hell would not want Loon cocktail napkins???  Along with other cool things,  $100 sunglasses and Tweetie bird glasses and ceramic chip and dip lazy susan.  Some people.

On Christmas Eve I got a very heavy 24h shift in the ER.. [emoji43]

On Christmas Day I got a box of my favorite Belgian pralinés and quality time with my wife and my two kids, with lots of love, hugs and kisses. [emoji7] I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! [emoji4] I offered us a New Year in London in family, including tickets for the fireworks and a ride on the Coca-Cola London Eye! Departure in a few hours... [emoji574][emoji312][emoji565]

As material gifts, I'm giving myself a full FFS and a tummy tuck in less than two months... But that's more a necessity than a gift. [emoji6]

Hugs, Sarah

Cast iron cookbooks would be so cool. I didn't know they made cookbooks for cast iron cookware. I totally love cast iron. The lady next door gave me her castiron cookware because she doesn't really cook any more and the cast iron is too heavy for her now. It's funny, when she first offered them to me I said no thank you. I thought they were ugly and none of them were nonstick. I didn't think they could be better than my kitchenaide cookware.  She told me to take the frying pan home and use it a couple times and then I would want the rest of it. She was totally right. I love the fact it's all oven proof too. She's such a sweet lady.

That's cool the old dear gave you her cast irons  ;D  That means she sees you as a daughter or someone special to her

I have a couple of cast irons, a round fry pan and a square grill pan - I think they're great and they tend to be my daily use
go-to pans

I'm not sure but I think I actually did buy them with gift card money  ;D

I also have a couple of non-stick pans but they tend to be item specific for omelettes and stuff

It's kinda funny because I never really learned how to cook until I became disabled from injuries, it's now become a passionate hobby of mine and I love finding new recipes to try

She must really like you.  Often cast iron pans are handed down in the family.  Well seasoned pans have a patina that works better than Teflon without all the poison.  I have 5 different sizes of skillets and 4 Dutch ovens.  I got them from my grandma. Love! Love! Love them!

I got a new condo!  With a guest bedroom and bath for Laurie to stay in if she comes this way, and a second parking space for her truck. [emoji6]

(I'd been looking for a little while, and the Universe saw fit to drop this on me, the size and number of bedrooms I wanted, the larger kitchen I needed, at what I consider my ideal location downtown, and located three doors down from my leased apartment, same building and floor!  I took it, and closed four days before Christmas. As far as I am concerned, the Universe gave me one heck of a Christmas present.)

Now can we get back on topic?

Hugs,
  Laurie

You didn't derail the thread Laurie. I'm interested in anything you want to share. I know some people get irate when they think their thread is derailing but I don't.  I like hearing anything people have to share. I don't care if it's on or off topic.

Don't your fingers get sore from turning the heavy pages?   >:-)

That's hilarious!  Once when the lady next door was telling me about her childhood she said they cooked on a wood burning stove. I asked her what kept the stove from burning up. She started laughing. I assumed a wood burning stove was made from wood. A blonde moment I guess. She thought it was hilarious. She has really interesting stories about her childhood and early life. I love hearing them.

And Laurie, you weren't off topic.  Hopefully not, but I think considering what we all go through, you may not have had that gift exclusively.  Julia asked a question that everyone has an answer to and you gave an honest reply.  Just voicing it could have acted as a hug to another who is thinking "I'm not alone" after reading it.

  Jess,

What you say is correct but I seriously hope there aren't others afflicted with this messed up feeling that make me so selfish in pushing those away that want to do nothing more than show that they care about me. I feel too flawed and wretched in my self loathing to feel worthy of accepting what I so desperately need. It's a catch 22... I want and need it but I cannot accept it. How can I accept love from others when I don't love myself?

Hugs,
  Laurie

You're not flawed or wretched. You're one of the nicest people here. I remember when I first joined this site. You were the first one to greet me and you made me feel welcome. I've seen you do the same with a lot of others. You've also given myself and others kind and good advice. You're not selfish either. I'm sorry you're having a bad time right now.  But understand that all of us care about you. If you need to vent or rant that's fine. We've all been there and you're among friends here.
Big HUGS.

Just when you think it's all over and sleepily making some coffee to get your day on... There's a knock at the door

You timidly peer out to see an oddly shaped box and check the label to make sure it isn't a mistake... Yes, that's your name and address

So you take the oddly shaped box in and open it and OMG!!! It's an electric twelve string guitar with a Telecaster body!!!

Imma tune that puppy up  ;D

$200 for new tires, some camping gear, blankets, a book, gloves, some rare vintage Transformers finds (my husband has been giving me a TF toy of my favorite character for years now, but seeing as how I've collected them all already..!), alcohol, money for a transmission fluid change...

Then there's the stuff I got ME: a torque wrench and $100 gift card to Quadratec because it came with one of these hilarious stockings:

I got this on New Year's Day from my son and it was for Hanukkah. I should have posted this then but I was tired then drove from Pittsburgh where he lives to the Hudson Valley in New York where we live the next day and forgot to post. Randi helped him pick it out! She has good taste and knows mine well.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180109/957cff867978a4f0cd95258b41f130c7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180109/69d2ec4f0e31e1f1958376014fd06984.jpg)

That's an interesting purse Dee. Colorful too. Mine would be boring next to it. heck it plain and boring by itself but I like it.

I encourage you to try a starter bag, something that could be for a guy too.  only wear it as a purse.  not only does it hold stuff you want to, but it's gender affirming too.  Oh, have you started wearing women'spants too?  The pockets are so small, you want a bag to put things in.  Putting my cell phone in my jeans pocket is uncomfortable now.  The bag is where it's at.  I'll include a link to my favorite starter bag too, super cheap.

Thanks, Bari Jo!  That's a good everyday bag, and looks to have more room than my Travelon or Baggolini everyday purses.   I just ordered one to try out.  (Not a big fan of the giant Coach and similar high end, single space designer bags. The 'design' is mostly to show off their logo, rather than provide functionality.  OK, I'm also cheap...)

Let us know how things go.  For Xmas I also received a coach bag from my sister.  It's about the same size, but it's much more feminine.  I'm having a hard time using it as I'm not out to everyone.  I'll get there, it's incentive.

I still can't quite pull off women's jeans, too much extra weight still and they highlight it. Leggings/jeggings do well on me, but too much to wear publicly at the moment. I do want to start switching over though, and was trying to figure out how to approach it in a store here. Since I don't have to 9 to 5 it, I can shop at weird times fortunately though.

(Though I have now switched over to exclusively women's underwear and stuff like deodorant and body wash. I smell all citrusy and I love it. It's a start. Orange blossom is my jam, yo!)

Same here on the undies.  Haven't worn men's jeans in weeks - women's fit and are more comfortable though while I like the closing/wrapping cuff at the bottom, I reserve those for home only right now.  I have noticed that my color perception and likes have shifted somewhat to pastels and greys.
