Title: I'm back after the nightmare
Post by: Jared3339 on December 30, 2017, 12:18:25 PM
Hey guys and girls, I'm posting a long time because I've been dealing with some huge Life Changes recently and now I'm finally settled down and very different situation and things are looking better than ever. Some of you may remember my post from a while ago titled the nightmare situation where I had to come out to my parents and they were very very unsupportive. Well times have changed and once I turned 18 my parents kick me out of my house after that I moved in with a very Progressive family that supports not only me but the other kids that live with them a lot. Everything's been going really well I'm finally seeing a therapist for the right reasons and I'm getting ready to start HRT which is very exciting. Now that I'm 18 I can do this the right way and I live in Massachusetts. I know there's the Fenway place I can go to but can somebody give me some tips on how to actually go about getting on HRT and stuff. I'm so excited and so much happier now that I'm like doing my own thing and being myself more and more everyday. I'm really enjoying life. Me being 18 though I work all the time to pay bills and buying new clothes Exedra is expensive along with a lot of other things does anybody have any tips on how to get by with money and other things. Cuz I assume that some of you have gone through similar things. Thank you guys are reading sorry this is a little bit of mish mash information I had my wisdom teeth out the other day and the drugs are still wearing off. Hopefully you guys can provide me with some good information about starting HRT how to prepare myself and how to make myself more comfortable in my day-to-day life now that I have a lot more freedom living with different people.

Until you learn where the leaks are on your budget, buy a note book and write down every cent you spend. Ask yourself if you really needed to purchase that item. Next ask yourself if there was a way to do it for less cost. When I moved out on my own, I quickly realized that eating out was expensive and I could cook for myself at far less cost.

You might consider other sources of income like putting in an extended shift or working a second job. If nothing else, ask your current employer how you can improve yourself so you will be eligible for promotions. That is a long term solution to your problem and for now you may be somewhat limited as to what you can do.

Apply for Medicaid and food stamps (and whatever else social services have to offer you).

Look for cash gigs at craigslist.

Spend as little money as you can for non-essential stuff (not transition-related), don't overspend on food or dresses either.

Learn some useful skill that would give you better employment options.

Dena mentioned keeping a notebook. But I'm a geek and use Mint.com for creating a budget and tracking expenses. and it's free. Also now my online banking can also track it. It really helps to see the items you can eliminate and the ones you can't live without. Good for you in pursuing an education. There are so many more things you can do if you have one and employers will overlook your gender if you make them money. Funny how that happens. It's all about the Benjamin's.
