My opinion, however unpopular it may be, is that one who expects to be accepted as female ought to make at least some effort to present that way.

I agree. I know not everyone passes but there's a difference in not passing and not even bothering to trye. Maybe she couldn't afford laser but there is no reason to sport facial hair, she could shave. She's a nurse so there's no reason she shouldn't be able to afford even a cheap wig until her hair grows out. I'm not saying someone has to be passable to be trans, they don't. And if this woman doesn't want to look like what society expects a woman to be that's totally her choice. But if she continues to work with the public she's going to face a lot of prejudice and abuse.
This is silly and overdone. They should just have given the woman another nurse and move on. It doesn't say she went along with it? I would understand if she went along with it because they convinced her and then ended up getting molested or sexually assaulted. But that happens regardless of gender.

This is one of those cases that I worry gives fuel to the bathroom bill crowd. :/
I don't understand the nurse's mentality on this at all... as a medical professional it is her job to put the patient first, including just making sure they are comfortable, no matter what. Showing up dressed in a manner that sounds like it was simply unprofessional, male or female, is just not acceptable in that environment. And honestly, if the patient was uncomfortable with their nurses presentation, they shouldn't be made to feel bad about it either. To put it another way, if it had been a cis-female nurse who showed up with heavy tattoos and a beard, I can't imagine the patient being very comfortable then either. (I know that I get a little uncomfortable at my dermatologist when I get this one nurse who clearly doesn't take care of herself at all, and she has a massive biker gang type tattoo encircling her entire arm, and that has nothing to do with gender presentation).
