Title: Dosage: Acne and Accutane
Post by: CMD042414 on January 01, 2018, 10:55:10 AM
If anyone has any experience with being on T and accutane/isotretinoin I'd love to hear from you. I started T almost 4 years ago at a standard weekly dosage. I have always had moderate acne, it's genetic for me, so of course T made it worse. No antibiotics or topicals worked. Dermatologist put me on accutane and the result was the clearest smoothest skin I've had since I was a newborn. Then my doc reduced my T dosage a tad and 9 months after ending accutane my skin got bad again. I thought it would actually improve because of lower testosterone but nope. Genetics.

So I've been back on the tane since September for course number 2. Should finish end of March. My question is has anyone here been on T and accutane and what were the results? Has anyone had to do 2 courses of accutane? I'd like to reduce my T level one last time and I am keen on doing so while I am on accutane as opposed to after.

There are so many variables here that someone else's experience really is not helpful.

I am really glad that you are seeing a dermatologist, they really know how deal with acne given all the variables involved with that condition. A repeat course of therapy is not uncommon for many conditions. Medicine is an art not a science. We all respond differently and we just have to keep trying different things until the condition clears up, if it ever does.

I am a retired Pharmacist and I have seen several people over the years who needed more than one course of Accutane. For a many people, as they get older, their natural Testosterone levels go down and their skin does clear up to the point where normal daily skin care keeps their face acne free.
