Title: Hello everyone my name is Audrey
Post by: Audrey on December 15, 2007, 03:51:07 PM
Well I suppose a formal introduction is in order before I to do much posting.

My name is Audrey and I live in Montana  :icon_help: (jokes its not that bad).  I'm 24 and started my transition a little over a year ago around my 23rd b-day.  I suppose I pretty much have the typical TS background (feeling different, crossdressing etc.)  I went to Wyotech a few years ago to learn custom autobody, which was actually really cool. Got a job doing spray in truckbed liners  :icon_blah: (worst job in my life)  And eventually moved to Billings and worked at a Semi-truck repair shop (fun job).  My transition wasn't really possible there so I had to move on though.  I then started work full time at the nursing home after a short stint at starbucks.  I had worked at the nursing home part time as a boy, but then went fulltime this summer.  I transitioned on the job at the nursing home where I work as a CNA.  The people there have been awesome and really accepting and see me for who I am as a caring individual and not necesarilly as a TS.  Plus the residents are really alot of fun to work with and are really more open minded than one might think.

My parents don't agree with my decision and so we don't really talk much.  However, even when I was a boy nothing was good enough for them anyway, so oh well.  My interests vary from silver chain making, cars (volkswagens especially), stock and options trading,  self electrolysis (ouch), and just being me.

I decided to join Susan's as a way to meet like minded people and share experiences with others.  So far it really looks like fun and i look forward to posting frequently.

Well i look forward to meeting everyone.

Audrey  :D

Hi, Audrey, and welcome to Susan's!

Like most of us here you have quite a story, and some unique gifts, like making silver chains and working on VeeDubs.  Hardly little air-cooled engine, isn't it?

You mention transition. If you are taking hormones I recommend that you do it under the supervision of a physician.

I've learned that the last place to go for support is to my family.  I have been on HRT since 2002 and i came out at work in 2004.  I am middle-aged, pre-op, and my family might as well not exist.

Anyway, enjoy yourself here and be open to learning and sharing.  You'll find them here.

Hi Audrey! Welcome to Susan's. Billings? BBbbrrrrrrrrrr. I used to live in Great Falls. Montana is just too cold for me. I live just north of Seattle now. The milder weather suits me. Hope you have a great time here at Susan's.

Hello Aubrey! It sounds like we have a lot in common. I am quite a bit older than you, but if you have found your career choice in nursing at this age, congratulations! I worked a little over a year as a CNA. I worked as a female, nobody cared about the trans thing, one or two people wanted to ask questions, which was a little annoying, but most people never noticed. It's all about the residents! I decided the work was too hard for me (I'm 56), and since I could not go back to my old profession, I decided to make nursing a career. I recently graduated from a very good private school, and as soon as I take my state board exam, I'll be an LPN. Honey, we are extremely in demand, and I doubt if you could find a more honorable, rewarding career. Stick with it and go for it if you love it! And best of luck in your transition!

Welcome to Susan's and enjoy.

I worked in a nursing home once as a grunt doing basic labor kinds of things around the home and helping the staff with the guests when needed. It wasn't bad but it isn't the kind of job I'd go back to. The staff at the place I worked didn't treat the guests like "guests", more like cattle and I just couldn't stand watching that.

Good luck.

"Awsom!!!!" I worked with mental health consumer for ten years. I loved the job and the recipients were like family after a time. If  hadn't of been retired I would still be there.

Hi Audrey, and welcome.

I have never been to Montana, probably never will, but I do know a lot of people who used to live there.

In my experience you are indeed lucky to work in such a great place. I know it can be very rewarding.
I too have had some experience of nursing homes (in England), where care seems to be of the compassionate variety.  I now live in California where my experience of nursing homes has not been so favorable.

I hope you continue to find enjoyment in what you do and believe you will find a large family of understanding and supportive people here at Susan's.

Hugs

Jenny
