I read Neros thread on glow on the dark cats and I am outraged! >:( I put this here because it didnt say the topics had to be
TG-related.

They say that our justice system was set up to protect PEOPLE. This is true. It is also true that our justice system is realizing that disregard or pleasure at the suffering of a living thing is a sign of a serious disturbance in an individual and can be a precursor to crimes against people. In other words, people who abuse animals often abuse people, too. The mental health world has known this a long time. Our justice system is finally catching up.
Do you think there should be stiffer penalties for animal cruelty based on this premise? Do you think that harsher penalties for animal cruelty and cruelty awareness could help prevent crimes against people? Where do you draw the line? Is it alright for a scientist to do this kind of harm to an animal?
I am as outraged as you, Butterfly, this is just a disgusting act of abuse in the name of research for very dubious reasons to say the least. And why do the Japanese need to hunt down and kill 1000 whales for research? Why is this allowed to go on? We can report offenders in our neighbourhood to the R.S.P.C.A, but these mad scientists can continue without being answerable to anyone and do experiments willy-nilly.
They are definitely disturbed individuals!!! They are playing with living beings to achieve fame and noterity! I have never heard of them ever being brought to justice or penalized!!
Why in heavens name do we need fleuro cats!! It's insane!! I hope the whole world shows their disapproval!!
We have a low tolerance of animal abuse in Australia and many are brought before the courts and receive fairly long sentences and fines. But as yet I have never heard of a scientist charged, they always fall back on 'all in the aid of science'!! Which in many instances is utter rubbish!! >:(
I'm against any form of cruelty whether it be a wild animal or a pet. Some people just don't care. And cruelty takes many forms, from neglect to physical abuse to whatever the cruel mind can dream up.
Animal cruelty is disgusting and should be penalized as a criminal felony. Scientists want to test or experiment on an animal? why don't they use the serial killers, rapists or murderers who are waiting on death row? Let them be worthy for once in their life instead of wasting the tax payer dollars! >:(
tink :icon_chick:
Tink, experimenting on criminals is just as cruel as experimenting on any other animal. There are many people on death row that are innocent of any crime. They were wrongly convicted. Cruelty to any animal including people is very wrong.

You are correct. I was having a bitch fit, sorry and thank you :)

Diane, there maybe a few that are there wrongly but there are far to many that are not.some have been convicted of such heinious crimes with overwhelming evidence that they should have been executed on the spot. As for animal cruelty those guilty of that should be tortured like they did to the animal. I get nausus when I see whats been done to animals, and get furious and have called the police when I see a dog or a child locked in a car on a hot day. Those who torture animals are future killers.

Bah. It says in the article why they thought it was useful to do it, and it has nothing to do with wanting glowing cats. It's about seeing if you can get a cat that produces a certain protien. Using the same technique to get cats to produce a different protien could have all kinds of uses. They want to make strains of cats to study genetic disease.
What's cruel about inserting a peice of DNA into a zygote anyway?
Why do you think these kittens have been treated badly?
It makes me angry. I used to work in dog lab. I was a 'puppy petter.' If the experimental dogs don't get to play with and be hugged and petted and talked to by people, they get weird and might bite researchers, and their health is adversely affected by stress and this can screw up the results of the experiment. So they pay people to love the dogs and exercise them. Dog lab isn't a bad place for a dog to live, and nobody was ever mean to them, and they had pain meds when they needed them and somebody cried over them, hard. If you ever need a kidney transplant, you better bloody well give it up for me and my dead puppies that I loved, and if you never need one don't you dare tell me it wasn't worth it.
Glass f*ing houses, ladies. You want to see an animal that's been treated badly, look at your dinner. Or at premarin. In contrast, the welfare of animals used for scientific research is excellent. Hell, people treat their 'beloved' pets worse than the cats and dogs and rats in the facility I was at are treated.
There is no reason to test your facial moisturizer and make-up and stuff on animals, and while I'm all in support of real medical and scientific research using animals, do tell Mary Kay to stuff her dead tortured bunnies up her selfish withered fanny.
