Mine kind f found me. I liked the name Felicia but I don't feel like a Felicia. I used Lexi as part of a screen name long ago and just kind of kept it in my head. Then the day I came out to the world alot of strange coincidences happened. There was someone else named Lexi and she dressed, acted and looked like I wanted to be. I figured that since it was such a strange coincidence it must be. Plus it's a unique, pretty and unmistakably girly name. I can wait to have my ID changed to that.
I found my name in the back of a cook book which listed the contributors.
Dani is not my real name. Years ago, I was toying with Danielle as a new name, but that didn't work for me. Here in Susan's Place, I just have not got around to changing my name. I am stealth everywhere except to family and other transgender friends, so I may not change my name here.
I didn't. Kelly is multi purpose. The number of times I've been mistaken for female on records etc makes it perfect. :)
Mines was rushed since I did not have a name that sticked I was looking for a Russian type name preferably the last name since those are hard to pronounce and spell. I settled on jenna because my favorite actress Fiona Hutchison player that character on guiding light. I wanted the Gabrielle name but they can confuse the pronunciation with Gabriel ( which is unisex but Gabrielle can both have the same pronunciation). Either way it's time for a name change 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lots of reasons, one was my first girlfriend was Denise. When I asked if I could use it she was honored and thought it was cool. We talk all the time.
Middle name is what I would have been assigned had I been AFAB.
My initials are the same as my grandmother who I miss greatly and she died 35 ish years ago.

I went with the female version meaning of my birth name as my mom was proud of it and I like it.
My Parents chose this name before I was born. When I was AMAB, they masculized it. They told me that story like a billion times. Well surprise mom and dad, I'm using the original name!

The name Sarah came to me in dreams. My ex gave me the middle name of Kimberly, and (since I liked it) I kept it.
My name comes from being called Bobby all my life as a nick name and my middle name is in remembrance of my brother who passed away 7 years ago. His middle name was Lee. I always loved the name Ann so I combined it all to form "Bobbie LeAnn"

I think I'm probably unique in that I don't mind my male name and so I doubt I would change it. Besides, it couldn't be any worse than one of those names that you can't make heads or tales of on how to pronounce it.
It half found me and half arose from trying to make a feminine version of my given name, Brent. I was looking for something androgynous so I could be whatever I wanted in the future, which made me think Ren. But then I remembered Kylo Ren and it ruined it for me. Buuuut my brain immediately jumped from Ren to Renée and I couldn't let go of it.
Mine came from needing a name to join here I was called Bobby as a child and hated it then as it sounded so girly and I was trying to be a boy so hard I thought bobbi would be taken and bobbisue sounded good no when I do my legal name change it will be Roberta Susan

My new first and middle names are as close as I could get to female versions of by birth names. Symbolic of the fact that I am still the same me that I was before, I just get to express myself more.
The only name I'm keeping from the ones I've been saddled with since birth is my last name. The first and middle names always felt weird and for a very long time, I never knew why. Now that I've finally answered that question, I've resolved to cast both of them into the fire.
I chose Cassandra as my first name mainly because it sort of calls to me. That's the best way I can put it. I also often feel like the mythical Cassandra in that a number of the predictions I have made about various things in my personal and professional life were disregarded by others...that is until they came true.
My middle name, Elizabeth, is a bit of a long story.
From the time I was a little kid up until becoming (nominally) an adult, I remember this toolbox my dad always had in the garage. In it he kept a lot of his tools from back when he was a Quality Control inspector in an aircraft plant. I only ever remember that toolbox sitting with the lid open - never closed. Well, the time came that my dad passed away and it was handed down to me. A while after I brought it home, I noticed that there was a name plate on the top of it. When I stopped for a moment and took a close look at it, I noticed that the initial for the first name was 'E' and not 'G', which it should have been if it was my dad's name. After a moment, I realized that the 'E' stood for 'Elizabeth', which was my grandmother's name (my dad's mother). I had remembered hearing that my grandmother worked in a shipyard during World War 2, and I guess I had inherited her toolbox. Needless to say, that was a bit of a mindblowing moment.
With that in mind, now about 14 years later, I decided to adopt her name as my own, both to honor her memory and draw strength from it. To work in that sort of environment during that period in history, she must have been a pretty tough broad back then!
Shortly after coming out to my mother (a whole other story still in progress), I also found out that when I was 3 years old, I almost had a little sister. I say, "almost" because sadly, she didn't survive the birth. Had she survived, she would have been named 'Elizabeth'.
I got a list of over 100 female names and had a few culls. Pondered on the last 20 for a while. The last couple for a while longer. Had a preferance for one starting with a J but i was open minded. In going to keep my middle name as its both male ans female, and a little on the unique side. I think ive already got the female spelling for the middle name. Never really liked it as male but im coming around now.

That name was originally Aubrianna, then that morphed into Aubrey-Anne.

I plan on leaving alot of bad habits/character flaws behind that I have been working on the last few years. I really want to be a whole new person 2.0 if you will.
I made a list of the top 20 names i liked from a list of 1000 female names. I narrowed it down to 5 and was going to choose Camilla as it's very close to my male name which actually is used by either gender but i decided against it as it was too close and i wanted a totally new name. I pondered Jane for a while but then i remembered years ago when i was playing around with gender roles i used to call myself Vicky or Victoria as i was obsessed with drag queens so 'Queen Victoria' was resurrected and the queen pruned off and Vicky it was.
I have always thought Vicky was a cute name and Victoria quite serious so best of both worlds!
I wanted to keep my initials - 'JR'. I looked through female 'J' names for ones I liked. I rejected those that were similar to any of my relatives or people I know. Eventually I settled on 'Jessica' because the name makes me think of a beautiful, fun, kind young woman. I then looked through 'R' names and settled on 'Rose' fairly quickly. It is a classic woman's name that balances well with the longer 'Jessica'. I also liked that the combination will give me plenty of options for what people could call me - Jessica, Jessie, Jess, or Rose.
After coming out to my daughters I also asked them for suggestions. I gave them a list of a few names I was considering, some which did not use my current initials. Both daughters agreed on 'Jessica Rose'.

I named myself Tracey but my best friend said I didn't look like a Tracey, so she named me Devlyn. I had beat around the bush and asked my mother once and she said I would have been named Maureen, that went to my younger sister the next year (We're Irish! :laugh: ).

I got mine from a Podcast called Welcome to Nightvale. One of the characters is a girl named Tamika Flynn, she is placed in the library's summer reading program, which is usually fatal. She leads a revolt against the librarians, and through a combination of grit, resourcefulness, and reading she manages to survive the program and take down a librarian.... it's uh, a weird podcast.

I really didn't put too much thought into it. I was already out of the closet and people kept asking me, "What's your femme name?" And I would just have to answer, I don't have one yet. So I started thinking about femme names and I was like how about jessica, julie, sandra, kati, mary beth, nancy. WAIT. I've been called Nancy before. Usually with the suffix boy after it. But still. I've also been called Betty, Mary, Sissy, Cherry among others that I can't say here on Susans.
Eventually I just picked Jane as it sounded like a name I wouldn't have too much trouble pulling off.

It didn't take me too long to choose, i knew a nurse named Sue and she was always smiling and lovely to be around. Sweet Sue it was and I love a simple short name. My wife wanted me to change it to the female spelling of Peter even maybe Petra. I needed something totally separate from my everyday life.
