I've been trying to teach myself make up using YouTube videos and stuff but it's kind of slow going. I can follow the instructions exactly and if it turns out funny, I can't ask the video what I did wrong!
But I found out that Sephora does free makeup lessons and today I went to a class on moisturizing, priming
, and foundation. It was really great! I learned a lot because I could finally ask questions and get feedback. The girls teaching the course were very nice and helpful. The other students didn't seem to mind that I was there. It was really cool being openly trans even if it was only for a little bit.
Hi Vax,
First I want to say your avatar looks good. Second is to congratulate you on getting out and going to that makeup session. It takes a lot of courage to do something like that. Sephoria will also give you a full makeup session for about an hour with the stipulation you buy $50.00 worth of makeup. It is very easy to spend that much there and imho worth the money. the will also do a free 15 minutes to show you how to do something specific like applying concealer or foundation or eye shadow etc maybe a bit more. I have never done it. I was dared to go have one of their makeovers but still have not done it. I did talk about it with the girl behind the counter once though.
I'm proud of you that you could go do that. Good girl! wtg
Hugs,
Laurie
Good job hun:) that's a big deal, especially if youre not out fulltime yet. I dont think i couldve done it. I know i couldn't actually.
It warms my heart to see a girl be that brave that early, reminds me of all the anxiety fear & excitement i felt at first, lol. Im Sooo happy for you & equally proud of you. I might have to do that btw, go to Sephora for some lessons now that i know about this, lol, could always do with more tips, theyre is always something to work on:P
Thank you for sharing, thats awesome👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I learned makeup by going to M-A-C and sitting in the chair. A couple of the ladies were really friendly and helpful. I would always buy something, and they knew I wanted to learn. After a year or so of occasional visits, I didn't feel like I needed the help anymore.

Vax, (I would love to know the origin of your name.)
I did visit Sophora with some work friends on the first day Denise went to work. I don't think scary was the right word, it was more like confusing. Someone recently said that Sophora is like Home Depot for Women. I would agree. Also the $50 goes quickly. I bought just some basics that I use every day and the bill was over $150US.
Your avatar looks great by the way.
- Denise
Congrats on going to the makeup lesson!

I, too, would like to know about your name. Anything to do with VAX computers? I used to work on them years ago.
I first learned makeup from the book 'Idiot's Guide to Everyday Makeup Secrets'. It was a great starter, then I watched some videos on youtube. Now my best friend is a cosmetologist, and she's been a huge help! I'd still enjoy going to one of those classes, though - sounds fun!
In my favorite video game, Bloodborne, there is an enemy called "Ron the Vacuous Spider." I just liked the sound of it lol. Thank you all for the tips and the encouragement.
