Title: Choosing the right Electrolysis technician
Post by: Quinn on January 24, 2018, 09:07:43 AM
Would like to share an experience I had with I started looking for somewhere to go for electrolysis.
I wanted to start laser and electrolysis as soon as i started therapy and estradiol. I was told that Kaiser would cover the costs of each. So i put in the request thru the kaiser therapist and waited impaitently for an approval, which at the time i thought would be very fast. Fast forward 6 months of fighting to get approval i find out that they only cover electro for bottom surgery and that to qualify for laser on the face you have to have your hormone levels in female range for a period of 6 months and does not cover Electro for the face at all. I was really frustrated i had waitied so long just to find out i have to pay anyway and i could have started 6 months earler.
At this point i started looking for somewhere to go for the electro, there were 5 places listed , the first 2 i called were no longer in business. Between the two left i had a choice between a small studio in someone home or a large Establishment that also does nails, makeup, they have  two esthticians, one beauty and one medical, massage rooms. A few more services they offer.
I made my decision to go to the smaller studio based alot on being a little intimidated to go into the larger studio. I am not fully presenting yet and honestly a bit of fear about going in there.
So i went to the smaller studio and to lower the price i paid for the biggest package she offered to reduce the cost.
6 hrs for $600 . I have never had electro before or been in a studio so i did not know what to expect or what i should be looking for. I preceded to have 4 1 hour sessions , i was starting to wonder how long it would take to clear my she was talking more than working. i figure on average she would zap maybe about 6 hairs a minute. so really not to many, i did have some red spots and some would be scabby .
The first 4 hours i did in one week ending on a friday i scheduled the last 2 hours for the following monday. I arrived a few minutes early she has someone she was finishing up with. After the other women left we walked into the studio, she turns to me and said " Do you mind if i do not change the sheet on the table because the other women that left only 15 minutes on her under arms" im at this point looking at the the sheet where the pillow is im supposed to be laying my head and on my side and covering the pillow and all around you can see little black hairs. I told her no i would like the sheet changed, she turns and two feet away she has a shelf with nicely folded sheets( im hoping those were clean)
At this point it was getting a bit nervous about her methods for making sure everything is sanitised, is she using the same probe and the women before me? i dont know but im feeling more uncomfortable with being there. She proceed to start, at this point i have not been using any pain medication at all but this day everytime she touched me with probe it felt like i was being burned as it was inserted. Every zap was more painful. But i stayed and endured just praying th time would be done. The whole time in my head im going over some of things she had said to me during the other sessions. She has said she opened this studio in her home because she hated working in one of the large locations they were to sanitary with white walls no windows. Her studio had color the the door was open to her back yard and swimming pool. at the time she said it did not occur to me that she might have actually meant the sanitary necessities needed between clients. At 1.5 hours she told me she had enough and i cold finish the rest of my time another time. I was so glad to get out of there.
Got home and looked at my face, there was visable bright red dots all over, i washed it put some aloe on it and was hoping it would be gone the next morning.
Got up the next morning and had around 40 location filled with pus. Not a pimple size , alot.
I got wet warm towel to help clean my face and clean the pus. It did clean the pus but left in its place my face started to bleed on those location. Instead of a small amount of blood coming out it was dripping down my face. I had to keep pressure on it to stop the bleeding. For days i spent alot of time tryign very hard to make sure that my fface was clean the wounds( nothing else to call them) were clreaned. They scabbed over and now for the next two weeks three for some of them until they were gone. Then i had small red scars for weeks after, the one that were located in the cheeks healed up and dissapeared , the ones on the side of my chin thou are still there and not sure they will ever go away.

I of coarse never went back there to that home studio.

After my face healed enough i went straight to the large studio. very sanitary just the way i like it lol.
The new technician is not only fast she does not damage my face. She knows what she is doing and everything is clean. And after talking to them and a bit of Haggling the lowered the price $110 hour so its close to the cost of the unclead location.

I just wanted to share this experience with some that may not have started hair removal , do not let fear stop you from going into the larger places. If they do electro then it would be strange if they were not familiar with trans. Cost is not as important as your face.

Take care everyone have a incredible day

Paige

I forgot to state that with new technician that she is clearing fairly large areas smooth, I get a little swollen but my beard is really dense, so it goes away in a day or so . But I don not get any scabs, pus, bleeding just a nice clean smooth area. It does make a difference to find a the right person.
Also this is Thermolysis if anyone is was interested

Thanks

Did you tell the new place about your experience with the Home studio? Did they have advice about the scaring?

Both the ladies I use have PCOS so they understand hair removal. They both give themself electrolysis.  But these ladies are so gentle and caring and they have become my friends over the last year or so. If my face shows any irritation they switch to a different location. My face usually loses it's redness on the 45 minute ride home. They are running out of places to switch to however.

I did tell them about my experience  I had at the other place . As far as the scarring I did not talk to them about it specifically I was just going to give it time and see if they start to fade.

Both technicians said that i have one of the denses beard they have seen, those are the areas that swell. Once the intitial clearing is complete im sure that will not be as bad. higher cheeks and areas that do not have as much hair do not swell or bother me much. These dense areas have multiple hairs each pore. I beleive the first tech told me between 2 and 5 per. Lucky me it takes a number of zaps per location to evict the culprits from thier current home.
