I guess to start with the basics; I'm MTF (probably not the best title for myself), 33, 6'0", and unfortunately more masculine than feminine.
Now that I'm past that, I'm pretty simple, but like everybody else here a bit complex. I realized I am trans around 17 or 18. Since then I can't stop researching the subject, especially the numerical, pharmaceutical, and psychological aspects of the gender deviant world.
Most recently I've been working to get back into school to finally get my degrees in psychology with an emphasis on gender deviant studies. I live in Northeast Illinois and we have very few doctor's or psychiatric care professionals in my area that understand or work with the gender deviant.
In my most recent courses in school, I was accidentally forced to come out to the whole class. It was embarrassing, affirming, and entertaining all at the same time.

You will find lots of information and support here. I think it is wonderful that you are going back to school to get a degree. I do think there is a real lack of good mental health carers, especially for gender diverse individuals. It is great that you found coming out accidentally in class to be affirming, even if embarrassing. I wish you success & happiness as you continue your journey.

I applaud your desire to return to school and continue your field of study. We can use more professionals that are able to understand and help with the issues people have regarding their gender. I will offer a suggestion, if I may. Though the terminology of being gender deviant is not doubt correct in many circles, it could be viewed differently here among our community. We know we are different but the word deviant can rub some the wrong way. I hope that we can be of help to you when you feel a need for support. Behold the door is open! Enter and join our community.

Welcome to the site salaniaseviltwin. I'm sure you meant no offence. And I am not offended. But this post did peak my curiosity. I was actually unfamiliar with the term gender deviance. From a quick perusal of google however it seems that it is a term that was actually coined to describe aspects of the cisgender community. i.e. a cisgender man who does work that has been considered, in the past to be stereotypical "women's work" has been considered to be gender deviant. I don't think it applies to the transgender community in a clinical sense however.
I hate to be "THAT guy", but I'm referring to the dictionary definition of deviant/deviance. Deviant: straying or deviating especially from an accepted norm.
On Merriam Webster's site, they actually quote Laura Arrowsmith's article on chicagotribune.com from this past December titled, "Transgender patients need better doctors." Under recent use of the term deviant.
Though what you are referring to is a version of gender deviance, that would be in the specific area of gender role deviance. Which is still within the realm that I'm studying.
Sorry for the annoying "THAT guy" moment, but I felt I had to clarify my statement. I will however refrain from the use of the term going forward so that I can avoid any conflict with all you wonderful people.

Unfortunately, academic terminology in a non-academic context can be tricky. I have ran into that a few times when I make posts, making sure I add an addendum specifying the exact use I am referencing. Particularly with stats and sociology references, as terms like deviant, normal, etc. can be loaded in the real world. (For instance, as I'm sure you know with those sorts of courses, the measurement of how far from the middle score someone is statistically is literally standard deviation.) I spend all day working on school and then I just get stuck in that mindset sometimes and can help myself. ;D
The one word that I really don't like to use, is actually "normal." Since everyone has their own aspect of what normal is. In my opinion, normal is a true conformist. Someone that will never attempt to express their individuality or rebel in anyway, shape, or form.
I even consider myself to be strange as I'm still surprising myself with some of the idiotic actions that I do or have done.
New thread idea. What's your definition of normal?
