Hello, my name is Leo and I'm 16 years old. I'm trans (ftm) and I really want to go on T but my parents are not comfortable with that idea and say I can move onto a next level of transitioning when they're ready. I've heard about getting a birth control implant and my mom has one, I really am considering asking to get one because I read it helps stop periods (and I think the one my mom has does not contain estrogen) but I need advice on how to go about asking her, she's the only person I can ask because my dad is not supportive of me transitoning and since she already has one, I feel like she would know if it would be good for me or if she would help me find something better. Any help on how to ask her about this?
Welcome to Susan's Place. I saw your post and my first though was you were making a duplicate post because I had just answered that question. A quick check of you post count told me you were a new member and you hadn't made the other post. Rather that duplicate the post, take a look here (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,233352.msg2080354.html#msg2080354) and join the conversation already taking place on this subject.

Old thread, but thought I'd chime in, since I went on BC for the same reason. Since I wasn't out completely at the time, I used the excuse that I felt like my cycle was too heavy and too long (for reference, I was using super-plus or ultra tampons and my cycle lasted almost a week), and my mom nor my OBGYN thought anything of it. You're not lying, nor is it unreasonable. Since, my cycles have been fairly light and only a few days long, and have significantly decreased my dysphoria. My cycles never went away completely because of how bad they were before, but it's way better than it was before.
cartowheel, can I ask what you are taking. I want mine gone, but don't want to take any female hormone type bc.
I'm currently taking Lo Loestrin FE - so far so good on it. No other effects on me besides reducing my cycle, which is wonderful. However, what works for me may not work for you, so keep that in mind when trying different forms of BC (my first meds actually gave me depression before I switched, so I say this from experience).
