Today, I got my first haircut as a woman, from a wonderful stylist who actually figured out something to do with my hair (hint to potential transwomen: don't buzz cut your hair just before you decide to transition!)
I didn't expect it to be an emotional, almost spiritual, experience.
I mean, I've been on HRT for some time. That was a big deal, the emotional changes are absolutely amazing, and I love what estrogen does to this body. I've been getting hair removed, which is also awesome. I put some holes in my ears. I lost a ton of weight. Etc. So I kind of thought I had figured out this whole body change thing. That's why it caught me off guard today when I got my hair cut.
It feels like my body is *mine* finally, and I *really* like the woman on the other side of the mirror. It's not just that I like the hair style, which I do. It is that it represents so much more, so much ownership in my life, so much finally giving myself permission to live for me, not for everyone else.
I was a nervous wreck today - my wife had to drive me (that's really unusual), and I was just overall freaking out with the idea that, finally, I was making a decision about who I am to the world. That's empowering as heck.
Congratulations ToriJo! My hairdresser has trimmed my hair so that in about 6-8 weeks she will be able to style it like Lisa Rinnas somewhat pixieish hair. She says for this style I will only need to brush all my hair back then just let it fall forward, laying where it will. I'm so excited!
Congratulations! I feel you on the buzz cut. I had very short hair when I started as well... But it just makes that first cut all that more special. I hope mine will get long enough to cut/style in another year.

The shoulder length hair in my profile pic is a little over eighteen months' growth. I started in May of 2016 with hair about an inch and a half long, and it has not been touched by scissors since then. I think I am going to go another six months to a year, depending (going for boob length) then get it trimmed and get the color evened up.
Congrats, getting that first female hair style is a milestone. Hair is one of more easier things to achieve. Even wearing a Alice band makes you look so female.
I remember when I started, I grew my hair. When it got to shoulder length, I had it styled and I got bangs. Then I let it grow and when It reached bum length, it was too heavy and too much maintenance, I had it cut.. and returned to my bangs look.. (about shoulder blade length). I maintain it now about that length.
Congratulations! The cut suits you perfectly. You're a lovely lady!
