Hi all, I haven't posted for a while, but I am excited about this, so I thought I'd drop a little post.
I've dressed in girlfriends' clothes in the past, but I've never had anything that fit me. I decided to finally dive in, so I ordered a dress, tights, and two pairs of shoes - black oxford heels and red flats. Also a sports bra, which I plan to stuff using rice, based on the 'rice test' for breast implants.
Anyway, they aren't coming for another couple weeks, but the anticipation is killing me! Of course, I don't know how well any of it will fit, so that's a big risk. Oh well ;D
anyway, here are the flats, I think they're super cute:

The dress is plain and black, sleeveless. I plan to get a forest green cardigan to go with. And I think a coral necklass if I can find one. I'm super excited. I don't know why it took me this long to get clothes of my own, but I'm afraid I may be hooked! Shoes and skirts and dresses, oh my!
I don't know why you ordered, but hopefully you'll soon be able to shop in person. It's quite a feeling to be in the change room, trying on things, with a clerk assisting with your choices. Years ago, I was terrified anyone would find out what I wanted to wear, but I worked up the courage to go into a store and buy some pantyhose, without pretending they were for someone else. Since then I've bought everything openly, shoes, bras, dresses and more. On some occasions, I've even had female friends with me. It's quite a feeling.
Wow, that is awesome.
Suffice it to say, I am *petrified* of shopping for clothes in public. I am frightened just to even browse in the women's section.
Currently, I'm just doing this alone. There's definitely a lot of risk in buying online, but I'm giving it a shot. Given the clothes aren't designed for my body shape, I wonder how clear it will be if I have the wrong size.
What area do you live in? Perhaps someone here can advise you on places to shop. For example, I know a bra store in Toronto that makes a point of selling to men for themselves. In fact, the staff have to be comfortable fitting men to work there.
I appreciate your suggestion, and it does sound nice. In fact, what I've really always wanted was a full makeover. It would feel really good to put myself in the hands of professionals. It's wonderful to think about.
But for now, I think I'm just going to dip my feet in the shallow end. I'll consider seeking advice about local places to shop. We have a 'lavender district' nearby where I can probably find some guidance.
I've stuck to online so far myself. Just not practical to do anything else where I live. (I'm not going out at all until I move.) The good news is that leggings are very forgiving, and pants are the hard part of sizing. Tops and dresses you just need basic measurements, pants are super individualized. I picked up jeggings for the jeans look without the risk of no fit.
I remember buying clothes for the first time, had money saved up to buy some clothes.I was a little nervous at first, mom came with me and I was 16 at the time.I was dressed as Zoey when I was crossdressing part time at the time.Went into the girl's section and there were a couple weird looks at first from a couple other moms at first.Calmed down and everything was fine.Remember buying a dress, skirt,a couple tops and pairs of jeans.Mom was proud of me and I walked out with pride coming out with 3 bags of new clothes. Then it was at a shoe store buying my first pair of heels, the sales lady was good to me.Mom and I don't forget this to this day

You're lucky. At that age, I was terrified someone would find out what I wanted to wear. I wanted to ask my mother to buy me things, but couldn't work up the courage..

I was and my mom is open minded. We had a talk one day and she was cool about it.Saw I learned my lesson from it as well,I worked hard saving that money up buying those clothes and pair of heels myself.
Once you get an outfit and go into the store already in character, it just feels right.
It is the only sure way to get a good fit and it is great fun to explore new styles. There is a huge difference between the same size number from different manufacturers.

I'm tall. 6' 4" so I have a hard time finding clothes that fit in brick and mortar store. So I shop on line. JC Penney is fairly inexpensive, Long tall Sally, but their clothes seem kind of poor quality. The items I've bought there have not impressed. Asos, Alloy, Torrid and even Old Navy have clothes that still don't fit but fit better.
