In a little while I will have my first appointment with a voice therapist. The appointment paper said "Shallow" so I'm assumning it means I'll be going from deep to shallow.
I've tried mimicking a female voice but my ears ear the low deep no matter what unless I mickey mouse my voice.
I'm excited and nervous. Excited because getting my voice to a feminine level will be one of two obstacles I currently see (the other is my hair) and nervous that my voice will always be deep and manly.
So, as long as I can remember where to find this thread I thought I'd post my experiences.
Cassi,
I am cheering for you! The voice therapist should be able to help you try to figure things out, otherwise, consider finding another one!
I would be a major voice fail myself I think now, although with lots of serious practice, who knows what the results would be. It makes sense to get someone to help you with this.
There must be some "feeling", tension, etc. that you can learn to experience, but I would think that you would need to be advised as to what to try "feel" as you are practicing.
Maybe there are some actor related videos and helps too that you can look at for free online, as a supplement to professional coaching. But the personal coach seems to be the way to go.
I wish you the best!

Thank you Chrissy!
I did some heavy googling on-line and there are a number of You Tubes but I never found one that actually "did it" or at least to where I understood it.
I did actually once, many years ago, try to speak in a soft female tone, presenting as a male. I asked a lady to listen and I was told "that was scary." I asked what did you mean and was told that voice could have been a low woman's voice, but it was scary spoken from a guy. I told her that I was just goofing around and wanted to see if anyone would think it sounded signficiantly higher and different from my natural voice. That was the absolute truth too.
Do not ask me how I even did that speaking, because I just do not know. I think I read something online about actor's falsetto, and how guys did that, so I just tried it out on a whim. I listened to a recording and it sounded like I was whispering so I could not figure it out, gee, anyone could whisper. I did not put much effort into it.
I just love those many soft, distinctlve, melodic, and pleasant female voices. That is just one reason I so much enjoy women, not that men's voice are bad. They are just not attractive to me. Some ladies have voices so pleasant, I could listen for hours. Well, at least in theory. Well, probably not that long. But I do often listen a lot, pleasant voice or not, because you learn and people do like that you listen and are really trying to understand what they are taking time time to say.
Chrissy.

Download a pitch monitor off the internet. I downloaded "Da Tuner" for free. It is a music tuner but works fine with voices. My regular voice operates at C2 or around 80 htz. My therapist has set my goal to F3 or 175 htz. Da Tuner even has a pitch pipe to give you an idea what the pitch sounds like. Without this input it really makes it hard to fully realize how close you are from where you need to be.

Oh. I forgot EVA by Kathie Perez is a voice training program available for Ipod and Ipad and available off the Apple software store. It's not too expensive. Around $20.

Your comments almost mirrored my therapist's review and I'm start'n to humm and vowels, lol. I was able to get the Piano tuner app which also mirror's the therapist. I now know what's meant by "Head voice" and therapist said I had an impressive range and timber so it should help.
So, hearing will be believing, I hope :)
I'm at a stand still with my voice. I am a natural at jumping pitches and intonation from years of random impressions (I do a perfect Goofy ;D), but I can't quite figure out what to do to move past just pitch. Maybe it's the sort of thing I just need to use the voice more often, which I really never do right now. It just lacks realism, though not because it is falsetto so I can't quite put my finger on it..

Therapist was quite convinced that attaining a feminized voice was achievable. She also has me doing the humming and vowels in front of the mirror because I guess some people tend to keep their mouths shut.

I am using Voice Pitch Analyzer for android. It allows you to record and then shows you your voice graphically on a scale with division for male, androgynous and female showing your average as a bar across it. It gives other info under the details screen. It is a good practice tool.
If you place your hand on your chest and talk you will feel the vibrations, you will learn how to stop that and resonate high up in your head and project the sound towards the front of your mouth. Have fun with the lessons.
Hug,
Laurie

Hi Laurie and thanks.
My therapist told me to download some piano app and it doesn't look anything like the one she had. Dawn recommended one and I downloaded it.. What's the exact name of the one you have? I have to practice the F3 humm and then vowels.
Thanks!
Cassi,
I am glad that the therapy session seemed to be helpful for you!

Thanks Chrissy!
It gave me a little more confidence that I'll master the voice of Cassi. Still all messed up on those phone apps.
Oh wow. I was talking to my sister and doing a random voice I just flawlessly jumped into a perfect female voice, full normal volume and everything. But after I finished what I was saying I couldn't get back to it, so now I'm frustrated and I don't know exactly what I did since it was just purely without any thought. Arrrrrgh.

Ellie,
Congratulations on your achievement!
Do you remember what you were saying though when you experienced this desired voice?
Maybe that will help you solve this mystery.

When the therapist had me do a few voice practices I found that if I thought about it I messed it up. So, quit thinking about it :)

Thanks, I didn't listen, I read but wanted to make sure. Some apps identify they do a particular function alike but have different makers, i.e., Mattel, Hasbro, etc.
Thanks and get back to the beach so we all can return to the party in progress (WHO HAS THE DIP?????)
