I ask because I have always been a guy slob but when I dress as a woman, I am sort of a fashionista. I hate suits and tie's. I hate matching outfits unless I am dressing as a woman. As a guy I could care less about combing my hair. But as a woman it has to be perfect. As a guy I would never wear a necklace or rings or earrings. But as a woman I love them. As a guy, crud under the fingernails is standard. As a woman I would not get caught dead with messy nails. As a woman I am kind of OCD. As a guy I am kind of WTF. How about you.
Slob? Definitely much different. Much better as female.

I was totally like that until I started to take transitioning more seriously and started living almost full-time. Then something changed. Nowadays when I'm dressing as a "man" for work I tend to try to get away with not too feminine women's clothing, clear nail polish and long hair in ponytail dyed a little lighter than my original hair color.
When I go out as a female my wardrobe is certainly a lot more varied than when I'm out as a male.
I usually only dress as a slob when I'm working on my car. But last time when I was working on it doing simpler stuff I couldn't bring myself to dress as a slob, I had to dress up nice(r).
When relaxing I dress exactly the same, jeans and a top.
Okay the jeans are a different fit and the top a little cuter but it's the same.
When getting done up I dress in jeans and a top as a guy but a nice dress or skirt/top combo as a girl.
I don't get a lot of time on my own so it's male mode most of the time at the moment
I hate pants. Dressing down for me is a nice blouse or tee shirt with a denim skirt or skort.

Dressing male I have four of exactly the same outfits because they are cheap, and I couldn't care less as long as I am somewhat presentable. I don't feel any desire to make an effort to look sharp.
The other way around. When regarded as female I would avoid female cut clothing and anything remotely revealing. I did not want the attention or being reminded of the female figure. So wearing loose and casual clothing was something I gravitated to without thinking about it.
As a man I'm much more inclined to look smart and dress less like someone who hates themselves.
I wasn't slovenly though. I've been a clean freak for a long time. I don't like wearing shirts or t shirts etc. for more than one day, I can't operate with dirty hands at home. Cruddy nails are gross, I keep them short and clean. And I probably wash my hands 30-40 times a day. Mostly due to work but also some of it is habit from when I worked in a hospital.
About hair though - if I comb or style my hair too neatly it looks feminine. You have to leave it a bit messy if it's long-ish and you don't want to look silly as a dude. I used to feel if my hair was messy it drew negative attention on a woman, so mine was always neat. I didn't want to look like a meth addict or something. So I dressed neutrally but always had hair as neat as I could get it. Now it's kind of the other way around... dress neater but allowed my hair to do its own thing.
I have some OCD about cleanliness still, there's a psychological effect if I feel dirty or sweaty or sticky or whatever - puts me in a worse mood. In some situations it's okay, such as when doing something outdoors and getting covered in mud or water, but to go out normally or hang out with people and have some crud on my hands or face is just not happening.
I would not want to look inappropriate in any situation.
Some public situations have a greater tolerance for informality than other situations but when is being a slob appropriate?
Dressing conservatively as a female would roughly follow the rules of loose, long, and ladylike
but each makes his or her decision based on the situation and good taste, or they should at least.
You do not go out in public with pasta sauce stains already all over your T shirt.
I guess that I do not get out all that much. I rarely see a slob. I notice stinky people though, unfortunately!
I believe that women tend to care about their appearance a lot and often spend much more time preparing to go out than a lot of men. But some dudes primp a lot.
Nope, I threw all the slob's clothes away. Now he dresses like Devlyn. ;D
I always say I am the weird one here. I never present as female outside home. But I am known as being too fastidious and clean-cut for my own good. Never a hair out of place. When I was very young I kept too many combs, brushes, hair spray, deodorant, body powders and things. I never survived that reputation because family and friends still see me as the "pretty one" even though I am a guy to the world. If any of them knew that I keep soft-pink toe nail polish year-round (and shaved legs) they probably wouldn't be surprised. :-\
In guy mode I had my moments in the past when I tried really hard. Not to sound conceited but I looked good. I just didn't feel good. When I dress in women's clothing and do my makeup I feel more fabulous.
Even as a girl I like to be comfy but I like to wear form fitting clothes and since I'm getting more and more curves I'm feeling so amazing. I like doing my nails and toes but besides that I really don't like wearing makeup unless I have to. Like for a party or special occasion. Day to day I may put on lipgloss, eyeliner, mascara, blush and powder. If anything at all.
But right now I'm not really in girl mode much... it's cold in NY and I'm still only 4 months on hrt so I'm waiting a bit.

No. Before transition I dressed carefully as feminine as possible with gender neutral clothes. I also spent time fixing my hair and wore the makeup items my dad would allow me to. I guess technically I never did the totally guy mode thing. I was just androgynous.
I may have mis spoke as I am a child of the 70's - 80's and I forgot the horror of polyester. Such as dressing like Travolta. Luckily it was short lived and I realized Rock and Roll will never die.
I sort of do out of logistics. Most of my clothes are way too big on me since I lost weight, and I only have a handful of things that fit right. So either I have a limited pool to choose from or I wear something that looks like I'm a kid who borrowed clothing from their dad. I want to finish losing at least another 20 pounds before buying new clothes and at that point I am going to shift my wardrobe over to more androgynous. Then when I'm further along and have lost even more weight, I'll start buying all female clothes in earnest.
Bottom line. I refuse to purchase guy clothes. ;D
I have been wearing a jacket that is way, way too big for me in particular, but it's cold for only a month and a half here so I have just rolled with it. By the end of Feb, I won't need a jacket at all so no sense buying a new men's jacket that fits.
It depends on what I'm doing. When it's yard work or something else dirty I go full slob. Since all my slob clothes are male, then that's when I dress male.
Most of the time I dress anywhere from andro to full on femme but if I have to go somewhere that I don't feel safe to look in the least bit "girly" I dress as sharp as I can but I refuse to wear a tie.
I was in construction, so i was in slob mode more often than not. Since embracing a more feminine posture I do prefer to dress in nicer clothes, colorful, fitting well. I feel better dressing nicer now. I have women's cut jeans I look better in that's for sure.
Right now I look like something that crawled out of the grunge era... but in my defense, that look is coming back.

So will the leisure suit and hoop skirts, someday!
Hugs, Devlyn
In Guy mode well depending on what I did or where i went yes I dressed really bummy old ripped shirt pants messy hair I did not care. When I was going out or meeting up with someone special Than yes I wore better clothes did my hair I matched everything from socks to underware to what I was wearing that day I did always make sure I wore eyeliner and mascara as I needed to put it on or there was something missing and I felt off that day. I never liked to where suits or dressy clothes I have been known to go to weddings, funerals, court business meetings in Nike Shox as my shoes.
Now in girl mode everything must match makeup clothes bra socks undies no lines if visible shoes. Every thing is a must before I leave the house I wake up early to make sure I can do everything and try to look good. I will not wear ripped worn tattered clothes like I use too unless it was made to look that way ya weird.
Not a slob as such but just a 'can't be bothered' look. Jeans & T-Shirt usually and if I have to be smart then a polo shirt and jeans! lol. I hate suits and dressing like a well groomed man as it makes me feel really masculine which I have never liked and HATE now. Hmmm. Only just realised why. Duh.
Yes and No, im mostly presentable, but i dont really care what i wear.....
If ever i have to wear a Suit & Tie i cant wait to get out of it Soon enough

Suits and ties would always give me major panic attacks. I didn't even wear a suit to my mother's funeral. Which sort of makes sense now that I think about it.

I wore A Suit & Tie at a couple of funerals it made me feel so dysphoric, OMG... one funeral i went to as soon as i got home i must have changed faster than Superman LOL
Also getting told you clean up nice like that made me feel even more dysphoric
For me, it always depended on what I was doing. Yard work, house chores, etc. in either mode was a work t-shirt and jeans or shorts that were on their last legs. Casual mode was always that either way - casual. And camping mode the same...except my hiking boots have a little pink on them now instead of blue. LOL For work, I always wore scrubs until I got on the "suit" side of things. Then it was a suit and tie. Now it's a dress and jacket. Occasionally I'll do the "pant suit" thing for work but I really don't like that look on me. There are a few dress styles that maximize what shape I have so I tend to go with those. I don't overdo my dress/look. I tend to go with what is work-appropriate, comfortable and not "over the top". i.e I really try to blend in these days.

I've only worn a suit and tie once in my life. My mom made me wear it to a wedding when I was 14. It was AWFUL! I totally hated every second of it.
I've only worn a suit and tie twice in my life. Both times I was forced into it by someone else. Never again!
I have had to wear suits a bit for funerals court, human rights, and arbitration case I hate suits never liked them after a few hours of wearing them tie and top buttons were undone and partially untucked goes back to me being a slob they drove me nuts I love the look of suits on men it was just never one me because I was not one.

When I was 6 my grandma had given me this stupid Christmas suit for Christmas. She told me she couldn't wait to see it on me and that it would make me look like a " little man". I didn't want that so I put it in the fireplace. I got in SO much trouble! Not just for putting the hateful suit in the fireplace but also for opening the grate while there was a fire in there. My dad made me stay in my room until dinner was ready and made me apologize to my grandparents. My dad never spanked me or my brother but if he had I'm pretty sure he would have spanked me for that. Lol
I always feel like my clothes don't fit me right as a male. I much prefer the more feminine clothing.
Ah, suits are great, they haven't gone out of fashion in over a century, unlike a lot of other stuff. Female suits are great too. I think women look great in both men's and women's cut suits.
What annoys me about suits is trying to get a nice one that doesn't cost half the UK's GDP. I'm kind of a stickler for quality clothes. I don't own a ton of clothes, but I like them to be good and to feel good. This cheap suit I had once - a burlap sack would have felt more comfortable. Never again.

See, I'm the exact same but opposite since I'm FTM*. I was a bit of a slob as a woman (probably in part due to the depression I experienced while living as a woman). I've always hated women's clothing and hated clothes shopping, never wore clothes that fit correctly, never wore makeup, dress shopping for my siblings' weddings gave me anxiety, I didn't care about keeping my hair neat when it was long (in fairness, it could not be tamed when it was long but I didn't care either way).
Since I've cut my hair short, I'm very meticulous about it being 'just so'. Shopping for my male wardrobe over the last couple of weeks has been a blast. Everything fits properly and is business casual or nicer. I've got dress shirts, ties and a dressy vest on the way--even though I almost never have a need to dress up. I'm thrilled that I get to go suit shopping for my friend's wedding in a couple of years and kind of wish she was getting married sooner!

I bet you will have a great time. I've had maybe five suits in my life. Each one being worn once. My problem is whether male or female clothing all my clothes have to be for talls, which make selection kind of limited.
yeah I'm kinda slobby in male mode lol. I've always been a t-shirt and jeans person, and then chuck taylors or boots for footwear. I grew up going to Punk shows so I'd have jackets covered in patches and pins sometimes but I've traded that in for a peacoat now. I'm still jeans and t-shirt but also flannel or sweater in the winter months. I've only worn a tux once and I've never worn a suit. I hate dressing up for weddings or whatever because I hate the way male dress clothes fit me, I'd much rather wear a nice dress
Oh my god yes! I had to go through a box of my old clothes a few months ago, for charity. I was a fashion disaster, word shirts and tv shirts and baggy jeans. I'm not exactly a fashion icon now, but I have a style and grown up clothes.

I had to wear a uniform up until the 8th grade. I hated it. I did learn how to tie a tie, but I think I would have preferred the girls uniforms. They had nice pleated kilt skirts in what I would guess was like a MacLeod of Harris tartan.
Since then I've hated wearing men's suits but people tell me I clean up well.

I never dress slobby, but I'm pretty much forced to dress male. I haven't come out to my parents and my dad just sees me as a drag queen. So, my only source of clothes I want is through donations and my boyfriend.

Yeah... so the only male clothes I own are sweats and a few t-shirts 2 pairs of jeans.... When dressing not so slobbish I have 2 suits but it is hard to wear them as I usually do not go to anything more then an applebees kind of atmosphere (usually for this I'm in women clothing anyway). As for work they supply us clothes so... I try to put stuff together some times. black slacks turtlenecks under a sweater of some sort, but if only it was cold year round ::).
