This past weekend was my birthday, and a large part of the festivities included time for me as Sarah. Friday started with some errands, eating out, and getting our nails done, and Sunday included a burlesque brunch show in DC.
I noticed a couple times though, little comments that seem to imply that I had been clocked - comments that seemed maybe a little odd or unnecessary.
When getting our nails done (my first time getting a full set!) the manicurist made a couple comments - once mentioning how soft my hands were, and once saying that I looked cute. And at the burlesque show, when they checked my ID (which made it obvious), she commented about how nice my nails looked.
So I don't know - does this mean they suspected/knew something, or are these just the kind of comments women generally give to each other in that sort of situation. Am I just reading too much into it?

Those are the kind of comments that women give each other. Still, what you mentioned sounds more like a support comment. Like "I know, but I'm fine with it".
Agree i think your over thinking it i do it all the time
This comments your received about your appearance and nails seemed to be okay and they did not appear to be out of line, and they were very likely not meant to be hurtful.

Oh yea girls totally make comments like the soft hands and stuff, but if you look older then the card might have been like a "lemme see if I'm right" type deal unless they were checking everyone's. But of course it seemed like they were okay with it.
The being ID'd thing was because it was a burlesque show - they were ID'ing everyone.
But lol, good to know it was mostly just my paranoia. None of it was said with any malice, so that wasn't really a concern, but whenever I am out it's one of those things that lingers on my brain - if I've been "found out".

Agree that women are more likely to comment on your appearance if they like something. I wouldn't think too much into it. Nails are a pretty common thing to get compliments on.
It's not unusual for other women to comment on your nails. Women are always looking at my nails and complimenting them. They tell me they like them, they're pretty, how can I do anything with them being so long, etc. Though sometimes they will ask if they are real or not. I seriously doubt any of the comments you received were meant to out you. I've had other women compliment my outfit, boots/shoes, ask if my hair is naturally this white (duh, look at my skin and eyes), just all kinds of different stuff. I've never found it offensive. You have to remember that women will notice and comment on stuff guys wouldn't even notice.

I would agree with everyone, this was a supportive comment and showing that they see you as a women, no matter what your ID says. I have this happening a lot when flying out of Dulles Airport and I go through security or clear. In every case so far it has been women complementing my nails or my looks. In most cases they don't care about my ID. One of them recently commented I should get my picture updated, but that was it.
Even at Union Station yesterday when I changed my ticket in full makeup and female attire, the guy behind the counter just looked at my ID and then changed my ticket without even blinking.
Especially in paces like airports, they must know what is going on. Most of them should have had some sensitivity training how to handle the situation. But i also think they do not really care which makes it a bit scary from a security perspective.
At least in DC and surrounding areas, I would not expect any issues.
Hugs,
Sarah
Set aside your concern about being seen/known as trans. Do any of the comments sound "off" anymore?
