Title: Pre HRT Bloods and high sbgh
Post by: Cara_DarkCloud on February 14, 2018, 06:58:46 AM
Hi Have just had bloods done before starting hrt and the results have come back with high sbgh levels.

Serum sex hormne binding glob 78 nmol/L (18 - 54)  "High"

Serum oestradiol level 131 pmol/L (< 192)
Serum testosterone level 26.7 nmol/L (8.6 - 29.0)

Is this something I need to be concerned about as I have read that oestradiol will increase the sbgh level or does the figure seem high but acceptable and will correct itself in due time? any advice would be appreciated.

High SHBG is usually good for us as it binds preferentially androgens including testosterone and DHT. Estrogen and thyroxine (T4) tend to increase it. Your doctor will better be able to tell you if this is fine or not. :)

Wow.  My last labs had my SHBG at 187 nmol/L.  It says the range 24 to 122. My new endo is checking into this.

Mine were undetectable, OVER 200. That's when I was on E injections and my levels were 1,000-,4000 pg/ml and I was taking a good amount of progesterone which also increases SHBG. My doctor wasn't concerned, both sex hormones increase SHBG so was expected. :)

My results did not include hormone binding glob.  I do have the genetic marker for it, though.
