Title: Came Out To My Mum

Came out to my mum over dinner in a restaurant. She shrugged her shoulders, said "I still love ya" and then carried on the previous conversation as if nothing was different. 36 years I feared that and in the end was nothing. OK, so she'd had plenty of clues over the years, but still...

Congratulations, Emma, on having the conversation. 

It's a bit of a letdown that she brushed it off like that.  At least it doesn't sound like she is strongly opposed.

My first thought was that she didn't want to make a big deal out of it right then .. time to process and all that. Be ready for questions later.

No bubble bursting, it's probably a good thing and you should definitely take it that way.

Emma I am so happy for you!  This is indeed one of the best things possible.  You did the right thing and I know from personal experience how difficult this can be.

Thanks girls - my mum has never been a big one for heart to hearts, but I'm going to give it a go next week to get it all out there. Although she now knows about me, I didn't have the chance to tell her about my transition, my new name (which, by the way, if from her as she once told me that was the name picked for me as a girl), my operations coming up etc.
