Title: Did your profile view of your face change after HRT?
Post by: EvaT on March 02, 2018, 07:53:53 PM
Usually when I look in the mirror I feel like once the hormones starts doing their job and add a little make up I could pass as a woman, maybe even be a pretty one. But today I looked at my face side view and I noticed my nose looks like a bird's beak. That made me lose all my confidence I had of being a possible woman.

Have you guys noticed any change to your face profile after starting HRT?

It got fatter! Might be the age, though.

My face is most defiantly changing. A woman at the building that hasn't seen me in a couple months actually had to ask if it was me. The change to fem cloths and makeup have made a big difference. I have facial features that are not ideal for feminization but they are me and I will incorporate them into my transition as I move forward. Please don't get down on yourself due to on bad viewing angle, you are very cute in your picture.

I think we are have those moments. In some ways I think estrogen makes our dysphoria more noticeable, since it's no longer part of the constant background noise of life.

I remember looking in a mirror a few months after starting HRT, and thinking for the first time, "wow, this is what it's like to see myself in the mirror and like what I see." But, inevitably, I would catch another glimpse of myself in the mirror and see maleness, and my dysphoria would suddenly skyrocket. I was more numb to my dysphoria before because I never knew what it was like to look in a mirror and not be repulsed by what I saw.

That said, maybe see if, over time, your nose is a recurring source of discomfort. If it is, you might want to consider getting a consultation for rhinoplasty to help relieve your dysphoria.

Your profile will change some with fuller cheeks, cheek bones being a bit more pronounced. Your nose won't really change. Perhaps the reason your nose felt so prominent was the way you applied your makeup... Makeup sculpts your face through highlights and shadows. Perhaps a bit of contouring will help with your nose. Foundation alone will have a tendency to give you a. Larger profile as you are covering the shaded areas with paint essentially.

After the first year of HRT, people told me that I looked different, but could not really specify what was different. After 2 years of HRT, I had FFS and my profile only slightly changed for the softer side, but I definitely changed. Now after 3 years of HRT and some eyebrow shaping and Botox for the frown lines, I am a different person. All the things I did to my face really helped change me in their own way. All this work took a few years, so I cannot say which item had the most influence in changing my face.

YES... my face did change but not dramatically until about half way through year number 2 of HRT, upper cheeks got rounder, my chin got less square... then by the end of year number 3 things really changed... my skin on my face and forehead is very smooth now because of the fat redistribution and my nose is less pointed and prominent... thanks to HRT I think I now have a very convincing feminine face.  HRT is good !!

thank you so much everyone for the information. So it will take about 3 years for your face to be completely affected by HRT. I was hoping to get FFS after 2 year on HRT, but I might wait until my 3 year mark... Unless I get dysphoric about my face profile then I'll probably do it sooner. lol..

@ EvaT:  HRT affects every body differently, it was in my 3rd year of HRT for me to see my face to finally dramatically change, I know other trans-women that for them it took longer and others during the first year of HRT for them.....  so, as they say... "Your mileage will vary"
Patience is a virtue....  your body will change when it wants to and you can do very little to rush it... or even to stop it.
Wishing you well,
