Title: How does weight affect how fast changes will come on T
Post by: spence77 on March 04, 2018, 08:02:41 PM
Like most trans guys I really want the affects of T to come as soon as possible. I'm not on it yet but I will be starting it in a few months when I turn 18. The reason why I want the changes to happen fast is because I want to be passable by the time I go to college in the fall, so all probably be around 3-4 months on T by that point. My BMI is around 24 which is on the higher scale of normal weight, but I know BMI isn't the only indicator and I have a little bit of a belly. Because I'm probably on the verge of being overweight how would that affect how fast the changes would be on T. Also I heard that on T when fat starts to redistribute it goes to your belly, so how would that affect me if I already have some belly fat, and how would that affect my permanently for fat distribution. I'm exercising and trying to eat better anyways but I'm just curious how this would affect my transition, and in your opinion after 3-4 months on T would I be passable?

at 3-4 months you should be beginning to pass but everyone is different. at 3 months, my voice dropped but again, everyone is different. as for the weight..well, i started T when i was overweight. i was on a higher dose and when i lost the weight, my doctor put me on a lower dose because my T levels were too high. i don't know if my changes, etc. would have been different though. i've heard that being overweight makes your changes slower though. if you already have a belly, your body fat will shift to a more "male" pattern. you might slim down tbh but if you do gain any more weight, it will go to your belly and your current weight will probably shift to your belly too (mine did). just eat healthy and exercise. when you go on T, your hunger might spike so you will definitely want to watch your weight more.

I do know that all body fat produces estrogen, in men and women. The more fat a person has, the more estrogen will be in their system. Losing weight should reduce it, but whether it has major effects on the speed of your changes I couldn't tell you. That's individual.

I would not expect to be passing enough to go stealth in college at only 3-4 months. Maybe if you took a gap year or started in the spring instead of fall.

Without knowing how close you are to passing right now, I don't think we can predict how likely you are to pass after 3 months on T...
I know guys who pass without T and other guys who don't pass completely after a year on T. I know guys who have more effects from T at 3 months than other guys have at a year on T.
