Hello, I'm asking this to keep it off my main page for the time being. I've been giving thought to a middle name and am drawing a big blank. I'll ask my parents what they recommend also, but wanted to hear from you ladies and gents too.
My first name is Bari Jo, not Bari with a middle name of Jo,. My favorite character names for ladies are Helen and Penelope, yes, that's from the Illiad abd Beowulf. I do like historical names with meaning. Maybe something Victorian... Can you give ideas?
Bari Jo
Penelope is a good one though my mum's called Penelope so perhaps I'm a little biased [emoji849]

Hi Bari Jo,
Some of the things I considered when going for a middle name was first, the initial - do you care if it matches your current middle name?; second, how many syllables in your last name, and if more than one, which syllable is accented? (I don't need to know what it is, just those two things.)
With that info I can try to make suggestions.

Hmm interesting ideas. If I kept the initials the middle name would have to be a J name. As my middle name was Joseph. My last name is two syllables with the first having the emphasis.
Bari Jo
Elizabeth. :)
I know this isn't going to work but Josephine comes to mind. Possibly if you reworked your first name it might be usable but otherwise not.
Josey
Judy
Jocelyn
Joanne
Jessica
Joy
Jamie
Jane
I used what I would have been named had I been afab. Catherine.

My sister gave the suggestions of Merritt and Journey. Still looking. So far my sisters names are winning out.

I spoke with my mom, and she said I wasn't going to have a middle name. My dad doesn't have a middle name either. It must be a nod to that. Interesting. I may choose to be middle name-less.

The middle name of my dead name is Joseph. I will pass on that for sure:)

Hmmm. With those guidelines what feels right to me is something with three syllables, with the emphasis on the first, and starting with "j" but not "jo." The repeated "J" (Bari Jo Jxx-xx-xx) could be a little awkward.
Cobbing from Denise's list, Jessica fits. So does Jocelyn, since it doesn't have a long "O" sound. And I'm starting to really like Jxx-xx-xx!

Elizabeth. :)
This was the first one I thought of, as well.
"Bari Jo" is a bit unusual, so a good old timeless name like Elizabeth balances it out -- grounds the first name, so to speak.
My name is like that. :) First name, very unusual; middle name, timeless and feminine. I think the combination works.

Interesting suggestion. It follows the three syllables from Steph too. Lots to mull over.
I love the new Avatar Jessica, when did you replace it? Are you getting a makeover there? You look really happy too.
Elizabeth, I've always liked Eliza (it will forever and always remind me of Faith the vampire slayer), as well as Elise.
I told my mom I wouldn't change my name till my birthday in July, so there is plenty of time to decide.
Oh and to all I apologize for my phone auto-correcting every damn word and grammar so terribly. I will try to fix it all before I hit post from now on! Sheesh, you all must think I'm borderline retarded!
Bari Jo
I agree with others about a smoother flowing sound with 2 or 3 syllables.
If you're looking to keep the J initial as I was, some of the middle names I thought of were
J.
Jae
Jaye
Jane
Jean
Jeannette
Jonelle
Janelle.
I included the single syllables in case one of them meant something to you.
Janelle is what I choose. My hearing is in 2 weeks so I'm ok with you "stealing" it if you like it.

Compared to the rest of you who are drawing names from your heart, my method seems so clinical and analytical. It makes me wonder about myself, but that method did lead me to a middle name for myself that I love.
In any case, using those guidelines, here's a website that shows tons of choices for you.

My personal favorite? Jadzia (Yeah, I know the emphasis is on the second syllable. I like it anyway.)

A girl I work with is named that she's so petite, pretty and kind. She sets off my GD every time I work with her but her personality is addictive too. I bet she'd be flattered if I chose that.
Steph, that's just too out there for me. I'll go through your link though 3000 names to go through. There has got to be one that speaks to me in your list:)

Yeah, sorry. I wouldn't actually use Jadzia either. Silly Star Trek reference. And here I thought you were a geek, too. 🤪

Thank you Bari Jo ☺️ Laurie and I got makeovers at Sephora then joined with Michelle spending the day in the City! Had a great time.... my avatar is at Sephora yesterday, that's Laurie photobombing in the back! I love my lashes!!!
Gwendolyn had come to my mind immediately. I do think it works with Bari Jo.

Hah, of course that's where I remember it. DS9 was so underrated. I am a super geek, but in Star Wars and pinball.
Jessica, that's so great. I want to do Sephora again for glamour makeup. I'll go after tax season with my return:). I've got the daily down fairly well, and enjoy it. Glamour has a whole extra layer of fear and complexity.

Alrighty, now I've talked with both my parents and they've reached an agreement in their memory that Bari was the first name and Jo was the middle name. Well, I'm happy with that, so that makes it easier to me to just correct the detour of fate. I still prefer to go by Bari Jo though, so I'll ask people to call me that.

Well that was easy and I don't need to remember a new name.
Beware! Miss Laurie is on the move, she may try to stalk you, but if you sneak up from behind and use your butterfly net, she's easy to catch. Plying mascara renders her harmless!
Mistress Michelle is sending the restraints you will need! If she breaks free, (she is getting good at locks) send equipment to her next intended victim!
Thanks for the heads up:) I'll be sure to have my dog be on the lookout for nerdowells.
