Post by: babykins85 on March 06, 2018, 12:52:38 PM
Hey guys wanted to know if anyone here has ever had any other part of their skull reduced
I know dr eppley performs skull reduction but wondered if facial Team or any surgeon has ever reduced for example areS of skull behind frontal bone
I'm looking to narrow my head shade basically as far back as  my parietal bone as my head sort of bows out at the top

Any thoughts

The first FFS surgeon (now retired) was Dr. Ousterhout, he wrote a book (https://www.amazon.com/Facial-Feminization-Surgery-Guide-Transgendered/dp/1886039933/ref=sr_1_1) "Facial Feminization Surgery" that details and explains the techniques he created with before/after photos.  His book does not cover the area you are asking about but has extensive coverage of the forehead, sinus and orbital rims.  (And jaw, etc.)

I imagine the dividing line is what can be done for aesthetic shape without reducing function and protective characteristics of the skull, or causing cranial pressure.

I have read some about "frontal bone prominence" reduction. From what I have seen mentioned, it depends on the thickness of the bone and that needs a high def CT or similar scan so the doctor knows what they can or cannot do.

What I see written most about is the frontal sinus cavity and supraorbital arches, as well as the rim for some patients, being the primary reduction target. If the frontal sinus extends forward, then some surgeons will thin and pressure the bone while others cut it out and reset it. That is called a type 3 forehead reduction. From what I've read a type1 reduction is when the sinus cavity does not require any work on it directly.
