Title: So crying makes you feel BETTER? This is new
Post by: AnamethatstartswithE on March 12, 2018, 07:17:16 PM
So the past couple of weeks have been truly awful mentally for me. I was supposed to have a therapist appointment tonight, but I had to cancel because of the snow. The soonest they could reschedule me was in 2 weeks. I got so overwhelmed that I started crying, it only lasted for a few minutes, but now I feel great. This has never happened to me before, normally crying just makes me feel worse, and it just keeps going and feeding on itself. This time it was more of a release, I kind of want to do it again.

Is this a "woman" thing or a "not having dysphoria" thing?

Don't know about the crying part but laughing has been hitting me pretty heavy.  So much so, that I am afraid that crying part will be as strong but we'll see.

Have a soothing cup of herbal and don't listen to rap music and relax :)

I've been crying a lot and I guess it helps. I just always generally feel depressed and crying is a release. But I get tired of crying too like I'd rather do something about my situation. That would make me feel better

I think, at least for me, that knowing the HRT use, i.e., how long, helps when talking about these emotions.  This is one thing that's really cool about Ellie is that she mentioned what's going on and there's more or less a HRT date stamp so I can, personally, be ready if stuff starts happening and know, oh, that's okay....

Thanks, I was just curious.  Roll aka Ellie is over a month now or pretty darn close and it's nice to get a general idea of what might happen.

I have four months to get to your point, which by the way, you look marvelous.

Sometimes, lol, I look at the timeframe of being on HRT like being pregnant - surprise you have twins, surprise you're a girl......

Aww thank you, though my avatar picture is from early December. Thankfully my facial features had a fairly androgynous starting point.

@ AnamethatstartswithE:   HRT not only affects your physical body but also because of the dramatic body changes and  how you process that  as you see that you are starting to become a woman... HRT affects your mental processes as well.
This is exciting stuff in spite of the scheduling delays...

Guys don't cry, at least that is how I was raised. Until I started HRT I could count on one hand the number of times I had cried in the last few decades. The only two I remember from the last 15 years was crying when our dog passed away, and when our oldest daughter started college. Now I can cry whenever I want, and I love it! I find that being able to finally experience and show emotions other than anger is cathartic. I cry whenever I think about how abhorrent my behavior used to be. Crying certainly does not change what I did, but in a strange way it makes me feel better. I can also cry when I am happy, which is the best feeling of all. Last weekend I came out to my parents. I was crying while waiting for their response, tears of worry became tears of joy when they accepted me.

Women can cry whenever they want, sometimes for seemingly no reason at all, and it truly is wonderful. Learn to embrace it, and enjoy the ride!

Absolutely crying makes you feel better.  And its even better if you live with 3 guys who get freaked out when you cry and will do anything they can to make you stop.

E, I am sorry that you have been feeling down.

One thing I was surprised to discover about crying is that it reduces pain.  My electrocutioner was working on the left side of my neck, which for some reason is more sensitive than the right.  She had the machine cranked up to "kill" to deal with some stubborn hairs, and it was really hurting.

Finally, I could take it no longer, and I started to cry.  When I did, the pain went down considerably.  She ended the session when she saw the tears rolling down my face, but the change in pain response was something I hadn't expected.

According to the woman who does my laser, if you're right handed your left side feels more pain and vice versa.

@ KathyLauren:  I have had the exact same experience...  for me also, crying does reduce pain and also anxiety.... it is, at times, almost soothing to have a good cry.  Of course, we also know that laughing is good for us too!

When dysphoria strikes really badly I usually end up crying, that makes me relieved afterwards.

I think the only time I have cried is either out of pride or happiness.  Laughing, on the other hand, has gotten me a lot lately from giggling to outright roaring laughter.

Now, with the start of "female" puberty, I've experienced a few pimples but nothing like when I did a thousand years ago which weren't all that much back then.

Since starting hrt 8 months ago, there have been several episodes of being overwhelmed with emotions.  It isn't a gut wrenching emotion like when you lose your best friend or your favorite dog.  It's more like being on the edge of a cliff and feeling the pull of gravity forcing itself on you.  Most of it had been triggered by exaggerations accelerated by nonsense and coincided with increases in my dosage.  Each time it evened out eventually.

Smiling most of the time, Jessica

I think it's soooo cool that we see growth.  By that I mean, For example, Jessica, 8 months on HRT and I remember when I signed up and she would have been on it for 5 months.  Then there' Who's name starts with an E being on it six months so it would have been 3 months, Roll or Ellie soon to be 3 months and had just started when I signed up.

Amazing, really, really amazing.

I actually cried more before I started hrt. I guess because I was so unhappy and I got depressed a lot. It always upset my dad when I cried and he tried asking me what was wrong many times but at that time I was afraid to tell him.

Yes! This is new to me too! I haven't been much of a crier in the past, but last fall I cried about a friend that died and twice in the last month I've cried about the loss of my dad, something I haven't done since his funeral a year and a half ago. Typically I'm more prone to panic attacks, which are anything but cathartic. It feels like emotions jammed into a space to small. Crying was the opposite. A release, as you said. I felt better after just a few minutes of crying. It was rejuvenating! I mean, other than the blotchy face.

Interesting you mention anxiety attacks.  While I've been anxious in my life more times than I could count if I had a hundred hands, I would call them more panic attacks or feelings of doom and whoa.  I've never had them treated and in the past have kind of brush them aside until they pass.  I mention this because, other than the old male trying to jump out, I really haven't had any in the past two months.  Good thing I guess.

I was about to fall asleep when I wrote that post, and used the wrong word, but yes they were panic attacks. My first two full blown panic attacks happened within a week of my dad dying. Then when I got laid off from my job in Jan 2017 I had multiple panic attacks every day during the second week without a job. Then when I was living in Virginia during this last fall/winter I was having them pretty frequently for one reason or another, lots of them due to feeling of isolation. Since I left I've only has one start to happen suddenly it changed gear and became the first big cry about my dad.

I was a person that never cried. In all my years before I'll venture a guess of 5 or 6 times I actually cried about something. Each of those was a major event and closely personal. Now I cry talking about my feelings, our situation at home, my new wig or my dress or a pretty nail polish. Alternately I find myself having a grin from ear to ear and head to toe all the time. I love both feelings as they were shut down by abuse when I was young and I appreciate having the emotional  part of me back.
I can drive thru rush hour traffic and not mumble ( scream) at anyone or even bump up my BP.

No difference here two years on. Could before, could during, could after.

Still know straight binary biological women who don't, and straight binary biological men who do.
