Title: Current Gendercare Response Wait Times (2018)
Post by: charlievidal on March 13, 2018, 12:21:59 PM
Hi there!

Just wanted to let others know my current wait times to hear back from Gendercare and check that it's a similar situation for everyone else:

First Enquiry - 28th January (via email)
Second Enquiry - 14th February
Third Enquiry - 2nd March
Left Voice Message To Check - 12th March

So it's been over six weeks and I haven't heard back from them at all yet. I'm sending to both drlorimer@gendercare.co.uk and drlorimer@protonmail.com (found on their Facebook page) just to be sure.

They are probably just snowed under with enquiries, but it would have been useful to have an automated message back saying that it could take a couple of months for a reply.

Any one else in the same boat?

I've read that once you do get hear back from them, you might have to wait a further six months for the actual appointment (barring cancellations). Much better than the NHS, but still a long time when you're raring to get going.

While i have not contacted gendercare i have contacted gendergp, they got back to my inital email within around 6 hours, if they havent responded by now i cant see how they might be reliable for you going foward? Have you thought about gendergp?

Hi Charlie,

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you as I've not used gendercare, but thank you for posting. As others have commented, I suspect they are just swamped, though I know this doesn't help you! Keep at it,  and I'd love to hear any updates or progress. X

Thanks to everyone who's commented so far.

I hadn't heard of gendergp before, Shambles. Are they able to recommend a prescription of hormones to your GP in the same way that Dr. Lorimer or Seal are? That's my main reason for seeking out GenderCare's help.

I just sent off a 4th enquiry email and received a response explaining that Dr. Lorimer will not be taking on new patients for the time being. Good to finally hear something back, even if it is frustrating news.

I have now emailed Dr. Richards and Dr. Lenihan to see if they are able to assist me in the same way that Dr. Lorimer would have.

Not exactly, once approved ull be able to get a private perscription from them for whats needed. Once youve done all the gic stuff u can then stop the private scrips and move onto nhs scrips. Use it to start when your ready while still waiting on nhs

So, I heard back from Dr. Lenihan the day after I sent her the email and this morning - a mere 3 days after initially contacting her - I've been offered an appointment for late September! So happy to be finally moving forward.

The current wait times for her appointments seem to be about 5½ months and she has said that follow-up appointments with the nurse at her practice, who can deal with the medical side of the hormone recommendation process, similar to what Dr. Seal would do, would be about a month after that.

I contacted GenderCare and GenderGP Mid-February and got a response yesterday from GenderCare, unfortunately it's not good news but I'm already with GenderGP.

QuoteHello

Thank you for your enquiry and I'm sorry we've been unable to get back to you until now.

I'm afraid I'm not taking on any new patients at present.

This is a temporary measure to allow me to focus on those already in my system. Internationally, demand for gender services is overwhelming and the other reason I'm having a break from new patients is to take time to consider the ways in which my area of GenderCare might adapt to meet this ongoing challenge in the future. We have been receiving unprecedented numbers of emails daily for some weeks now.

Updated information will be available, in due course, on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/drstuartlorimer/) and via Twitter (https://twitter.com/GenderCareDrL).

My apologies to those who have been waiting for an appointment date or other definitive response; I appreciate this isn't what you wanted to hear. Do watch this space for updates, though.
