Title: Laser for grey/white hair
Post by: Balerie on March 17, 2018, 11:35:15 PM
In my quest to continue this journey, I'm now looking to start getting rid of my beard and clear my face and neck. I've been looking around and seen several web postings circa 2015-2017 from clinics in Ireland and Spain that offer laser hair removal for white/grey hair.

I'm wondering if anyone has had it done here in the states as well as as location, prices, and results. I'm trying to avoid electrolysis if at all possible.

I used laser to reduce the amount of electrolysis and then switched to all electrolysis.  I tried several types of laser and found it fairly effective for black body hair, but not for red hair.  My beard was dark red.

I've never heard of laser having any effect on white hair.

Unless these overseas clinics have discovered a new form of light, don't count on it doing much. They should be posting pictures of results and not just making verbal claims of laser for white hair.

My counselor who is MtF said there are some newer higher power lasers that will do a better job onlighter hair but you will still need electrolysis.
I haven't started down that road  yet as my beard takes two days to get noticeable stubble, I'm lucky it's always been like that.

I saw on this forum, some process from Japan where they dye the roots. Wish I could find it.

My 2 cents is to just go with the electrolysis.  It's the most effective; however, even the most effective electrolysis will only achieve around a 40% kill rate.  Hence the need for multiple clearings.  My electrolysis tech says she has treated many people who gave up on laser after finding it ineffective.  The worst part she says is, after the laser treatments, it makes the electrolysis more difficult as the laser dries out the hair roots and you want a moist root for electrolysis to be most effective.

Had 3.5 hours of electrolysis yesterday and most of it was focused on my upper and lower lip areas.  I totally look like a fish today as my lips are so swollen.  I've found during the procedure it can be rather tough at times, but afterwards there is actually no pain.  Just some swelling.
