Title: Two New Pills on My Kitchen Counter!
Post by: Amie June on March 23, 2018, 06:00:15 PM
I wanted to share that picked my first prescription of estradiol and spironolactone from the pharmacy today and swallowed one of each as soon as I got home. Several hours later I felt so weird! It's like my innards were quivering. I'm sure this will pass but I welcome it and any other new sensation that comes along.

My endocrinologist was warm and supportive, as was all the other staff in the clinic. I felt quite odd in the waiting room, because I was waaaaay too colorful compared to the regular folks around me who were there for a variety of reasons. (I'm sure many here can relate.) I had a funny moment while picking up the meds. The pharmacist yelled from behind her counter, without me saying anything, "Give us 10 minutes." I thought, How does she know what I'm here for? This just added to the specialness of the day.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate springtime :)

Lindy:  Wow-whee.... a special and memorable time with your doctor and with your pharmacist.... and a big moment for you taking your first doses of HRT....   Hang on tight, it will be an exciting ride.

Just a another thought from me........  you have probably read other transitioner's accounts and times when the HRT started changing their bodies in significant ways.   Please know that HRT will work uniquely in your body and your results may not be the same as others that you read about....   quicker or slower... it is up to your body.  Best thing is to leave it in the hands of your doctor... after reviewing future blood tests, determinations are then made to tailor the dosages and regimen specifically to you.   Usually the HRT body change results are almost never as fast as we desire, but be patient, things will indeed change.

Looking for your future updates......
Best wishes,
Danielle

If she said "give us 15 minutes" I'd be worried they were going to show you how to save money on car insurance.

But seriously, this is an awesome event in your life.  I remember my first day with HRT as if it was just a few months ago.  Well actually it was a few months ago but my point is, congratulations!

I was hoping for a bunch of physical changes - and Danielle is right, the rate of change is almost impossible to predict with accuracy.  The part I found shocking was the mental change, and the change to my sensory perception.  Wow.

And it sounds like you have a caring medical team, even more awesomeness.

I'm so happy for you Lindy! I remember my "first" (not too long ago, lol)
The doctor sent it to the pharmacy downstairs and I floated down on cloud 9 to pick it up.

Danielle is correct that everyone's experience is different.  The saying "your mileage may vary" holds very true as we are all unique and individual.

I too am looking forward to your updates! Jessica

Speaking of feeling weird in the waiting room: I get my hormones at an OB/GYN.

I have to admit it was only weird the first time. Now I got used to it and it is somewhat affirming to see an OB/GYN in my early stages of transition. I also just wear a dress or skirt...

Thanks for the warm support, everyone. I expect nothing and anticipate anything and everything that comes along. I can't wait to go out in my skinny jeans today :)

Lol. When I picked up my first fill on E the pharmacist asked
" why are you taking this".
I figured the best responce was to just open my jacket and let her figure it out for herself from the blouse and the bra and the girls  and the necklace.
Guess she had never seen someone transitioning with a beard and moustache ( all gone now). Lol

I just imagine you taking those steps down to the pharmacy!
My pharmacy is in a grocery store, so I went shopping for breakfast cereal while I waited. I'll have to save the box in the scrap book I hope to start soon :)
