Title: OHIP cover breast augmentation?
Post by: TiffanyRye on March 26, 2018, 03:34:29 PM
Hi girls :) I have been on hormones since oct, and so happy I have decided to finally take this journey...anyways I have been doing research on the topic at hand and all it says is...You have to be on hormones for at leats a year and show little breast growth..

That's very vague. I will ask my dr about it next appointment in may I keep forgetting. which she knows I want breast augmentation and will put forth the proper paper work in oct. My question is has anyone had any success with this. Is it a case by case basis, are they strict, leniant? or is it a loop hole so we have to pay for them ourselves.

Here in NS, BA is considered cosmetic only.  Yer on yer own.  It sounds from your description like OHIP may be more generous, though only slightly.

I would interpret what you quoted as meaning that normally, BA would not be covered.  But, in the case where you can't grow breasts with only hormones, then they'll help you out.  Hence they have to have you on HRT for a while to see if they'll grow or not.

My understanding is if cosmetic, no.  If for reconstruction, yes.  I don't know where transgenders fit it.

Please note.  I am not a doctor and I don't play one on TV.

Ohip says it covers .....Augmentation mammoplasty for the purpose of sex reassignment surgery is also insured for individuals with no breast enlargement following 12 continuous months of hormone therapy

if you have any growth measurement at all they will not cover it but it as so depend on what the doctors right down I was refused myself
