Title: Post op FTM Top Surgery : graft failure?
Post by: shiraz26 on March 30, 2018, 12:52:35 AM
I'm about 6months post op and I can't help but feel so off about one of my nipple grafts. The right side is fine, the areola stands out where as the right side is completely flat or the best way to describe it as a "crater". When I go to my clinic the nurses who does my injections says they're perfectly fine. I can't sit right with this, maybe its just me and I'm overreacting but it gets to me. I emailed the clinic where I did my surgery about this and they said there is a nipple but its "curing flat". After I emailed back with numerous questions I got nothing in response. The nurses at my clinic said that I could do a correction but there could be possible complications with that... I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK, I FEEL CRAZY.... yea surgery helped a little but I don't know anymore.. Guess I need someone to talk to  :(

Well, every chest is different, even with cis men. Not all nipples look alike. Maybe this is going to be, for you, a process of acceptance of the way it looks.

While I can't say for certain because I haven't seen your chest in particular, maybe this is a situation where you could un-crater the crater with certain exercises, to build that area up with muscle?

Also, like they said, correctional surgery to the nipple is an option, yet there is the risk of getting a worse result than before, or potentially even losing the nipple altogether. If you've tried exercises and acceptance and nothing is really working for you, and you're still very bothered by this, then you can consider whether the potential benefits of having correctional surgery outweigh the risks. It's your body, so it's your choice.

I needed to hear this thanks, it reassured me a little. I guess I gotta work on self love and acceptance. Overall I like the outcome just that left nipple graft. i'm probably going to be patient and wait a bit to see how it looks over a year. Thanks again though  :)

Welcome to Susan's place both of you. I don't know that much about the surgery however we have a section of the site "Top Surgery" where others will share their experience. I am moving the thread there so this thread will receive more responses.

I have the same thing. It's starting to stick out a little more now, but it's still flat and my surgeon said it will probably stay that way. I don't know why he reduced one of the nipples so much more than the other, but he said he could do a nipple reconstruction from the surrounding tissue so they will be more equal in appearance. Maybe you could ask them to do that for your revision? (if you get one)
