I recently came across this place in Colombia for VFS. They seem pretty good (i.e. as good) in comparison to other places. There are testimonials, videos, etc. Not endorsing them, just sharing my findings with others.

Also, on youtube, you can find a very real and honest report of someone (Eden The Doll) who went through surgery with him. There are risks involved, her voice is weaker/somewhat compromised by 5 months but undoubtedly sounds female.
I saw her video as well.
I was a bit alarmed that her voice was still so weak at 5 months, but it does sound very perfectly female as you say.
I'm wondering if Yeson patients take that long to heal/gain vocal strength as well.

Dr. Antonio Ballestas is very well known for this surgery here. Another one of his high profile patients is Colombian trans TV host Linda Yepes, she had her surgery a few years ago so you can see her results and she sounds super feminine.

I had only seen a few of her videos, but I always thought her voice sounded female already. Especially given her face and body, there's no way her voice would get her clocked. Then again, if she was self-conscious about her voice, then VFS was probably something she felt she needed to do.
The loss of volume/power in the voice is something that concerns me. Does that happen to everyone with all surgeons? It seems quite common from what I've seen/heard so far.

I think she got tired of straining to produce her feminine voice, which is understandable.
I am pretty sure that usually the volume and power comes back by the 1 year mark.
I think lower frequencies carry better so a male voice has more power to it than a feminine voice. It could also have something to do with the size of the vocal cords and with a lower frequency the range of travel may be longer. That said, I have recovered most of my original volume but it took 1-2 years for my voice to come back. I know my healing was slow so it's possible that you could recover faster than me.

I agree. She does sound indisputably feminine, but it's pretty clear something isn't quite right.
Personally, after listening to results from several surgeons, I'm getting convinced that going for maximum pitch gain risks sacrificing a lot in terms of vocal quality or just sounding natural.
I don't think that should be necessary. The whole "170-240hz ideal range" idea is a crock of crap anyway. What you really want is a surgeon who will create just enough of a change that your overtone series is refined and your 'default voice' is no longer masculine. Listen to the 2nd example (the one on the right) on the Colombian surgeon's page - she sounds much, much better and more natural than the first one, even though she doesn't have even nearly as much pitch gain.
I thought about asking Dr. Haben to take me as high as he could go, but decided not to - one, because I might be volunteering myself as a science experiement; and two, because I trusted that he has enough experience to make me sound natural (as he prioritizes) and didn't want to risk any loss of vocal quality. My hunches turned out reasonable. I'm very happy with my voice now and even when talking around ~140hz I still sound perfectly female.
