I've been going by the name Ethan for quite some time now but I was copying a YouTube video the other day and the guy said 'hi I'm jake' and when I said it it just sounded 100% perfect and right and now Ethan kinda feels out of place but I'm not sure and I don't know what to do.

Ask people to call you Jake. See how it feels. If you like both names, chose both of them and use the best one as your every day name.
I chose Tony to start with. Now it is my internet name. I felt Pierre is more like me. So I'll change my real name to Pierre when it is time.
Tony
Others disagree, but I feel mine fits like a glove. I thought of some other ones before though. First I was Jake, and then Alfred, now I'm Karl. I've been Karl for the last 3 years now.

If you don't feel that Ethan fits you aymore, then simply tell people "please call me Jake now." If Ethan still fits somehow, make it your middle name. If Ethan no longer fits in any way, stop using it. Its all really simple, actually. [emoji6]

I understand your situation. I started out thinking Misty was appropriate but with my shopping habbits( lace and frill) my wife pointed out I was looking and sounding a little slutish. She suggested Darlene or Donna and Donna just fit perfect.
Go with your gut feeling.
I'm glad I settled on a name before I started the legal changes. Lol
I think what name you think fits you changes throughout your life. Most people don't get to choose and many don't like their name. I personally think you should stick to it once you've chosen one.

You think I should stick with Ethan?

Only if you still feel it "fits" you. If not, then simply change it. It sounds like Jake fits you better. If it feels "100%" right, like you said, then change it. Even if you've changed your name 19 times, as long as you're willing to pay for the legal change, when why not do so? After all, its YOUR money, right?
And if you haven't paid for the change yet, even better! After all, many trans people try out different names before they find one that "fits" them. SO WHAT if you have to tell people what name to call you. Its YOUR choice, its YOUR name.
In other words, do what YOU feel is best for YOU. :)
Good luck bro!

I've had the name John for 9 years now, and everyone I know is used to it, but sometimes since a year or so ago, I've felt like I'd rather have the name Lamont instead. I like the sound of the name, and also it starting with the letter "L" would make my initials L.L. which would be pretty cool. Currently I have the same initials as my sister, which is sometimes inconvenient.
I chose "John" cause it was simple, plain yet sophisticated and I didn't want a name that stood out. But I've always been a person who stands out and now I've been wanting for my name to do that too, to better reflect something I've come to like about myself.
And also I feel a little iffy about having chosen a christian name, cause that doesn't go well with me being a satanist, which I became 5 years ago. Had I not been trans and just happened to have a christian name as a satanist it probably wouldn't have bothered me, but since it's a name I chose... yeah.
My thought is I'll just think about it some more, and maybe when I can move to the main land (off from this island) in the quite distant future, make yet another name change as well. But like, I'd be fine with my friends and family still using my current name, cause I feel it would be unreasonable to expect them to change what name they use for me again, after a decade or more of having used my current name. But it also feels like too much of a hassle to change it again no matter when or why.
