Title: Weak from Spyro+Fin?
Post by: lunaJ on April 12, 2018, 10:35:06 AM
Idk if this is in the right forum, it's my first time posting here.

I'm 25 years old, 130lbs 5'6" if that matters, very healthy organic diet, at least a gallon of water a day, began HRT on Feb 5th '18.

I'm currently taking my meds orally in two doses - one at 7am, the other at 7pm, after breakfast and dinner. I take Spyro, Finasteride, and sublingual Estradiol in the morning & Spyro and sublingual Estradiol at night.

My issue is - I've recently been noticeably weak, like so weak that I just lay down and barely move. Feels like my muscles are literally just melting away, which sounds amazing lol, but I'm losing too much energy.

Is this normal?? It seems to only happen on days when I take finasteride, but I need it to block DHT.
Is there a way to feel better? I stopped taking it for a few days and felt GREAT but after the 4th day I felt masculine again and it freaked me out so  now I'm back on it.

This can't be healthy! Does anyone have similar experiences? And if so, what can I do to fix it?

Just remembered: I don't drink alcohol like vodka anymore but I do have a small glass of red wine very occasionally. Could that be a trigger?

Thanks!

Hi Luna, welcome to Susan's Place!  I'd add salt to my diet if I were you. The meds can really throw off your electrolyte balance, and table salt is the best cure.

Hugs, Devlyn

Hi Lunaj 🙋‍♀️ Welcome to Susan's Place!  I'm Jessica.
I myself have not taken Finasteride only Spiro, so I have nothing about it to give.  Devlyn has experience and gives good advice, but if this is a big concern, please talk to your doctor.

You are new so may be unaware that posting dosages are not allowed.  This can give others the idea that they could mimic your dosage with themselves.  A dangerous thing to do w/o the advice of a doctor.

I see your new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site. Pay attention to the site rules they can be of great help and don't forget the link highlighted red.  It has answers to questions that are commonly asked.  Then join in on a topic you find interesting and learn and share.

I went through a weak phase around the same point, but it's largely passed. I second Devlyn's suggestion, make sure you aren't ignoring salt.

For my part I was on finasteride since august and then spiro in december, and it wasn't until after the spiro I got the weak feeling.

I can't believe I forgot about my sodium levels y'all! [emoji23] Coming from the girl who used to drink a can of chicken broth a day.

I just made some ramen soup and immediately feel better. Thank you for the reminder!!

An easy and tasty way to get the sodium is with a cup or two of bouillon soup every day.  For added benefit add some ground turmeric and pepper.  I usually also add some extra sea salt, pepper spices, and hot sauce.  It fires up the system.☠️

Another way to get lots of salt is to eat dill pickles that have been packed in brine.  Tasty too!.   ;)

Honestly I think people are forgetting the most important reason FOR taking spiro.  Its an androgen blocker.  It stops the effects of testosterone in the body (Both the good and the bad).  Testosterone is what fuels most men to develop larger bones, larger muscle mass.. thus the lack of it means smaller bones, smaller / weaker muscle mass

It could be as simple as that.. you're going to notice naturally your body becoming weaker.  Some are able to stave this off by exercising more.  Your stamina will also diminish.  Its part of the good with the bad phenomenon really.

Yeah, but none of that fixed her immediate problem, and the salt advice did.  :)

I have weened my spiro dose now into 1/4 my starting dosage. I don't get any of those weak, ill feeling moments from low sodium / high potassium anymore. Last year this time however I was working outside a lot and did have a number of weak spells and feeling just sick especially after sweating some. I was on the road so I kept salt packets with me, snacked on salty tortilla chips, and tended to drink pickle brine out of the jar when I got home. Yeh pickle juice was soo good back then. lol

I also take Finasteride at night. Don't know if that might also cause symptoms when you are awake or not.
