Title: Fat infiltration Vs cheek implants ?
Post by: Drexy/Drex on April 20, 2018, 05:29:39 PM
Hello well in 3 weeks i have a face lift to take up the slack from FFS I asked my surgeon  about getting cheek implants but he recommended fat transfer, as there are less complications ?

I don't know the answer to that question but I do have some questions. My understanding is when a foreign object is implanted in the body, the body attempts to encapsulate the object. With breast implants, this requires regular breaking the capsule as it can become painful and appear incorrectly. I would think that cheek implants might suffer from the same issue and if so, it might be better to use something that doesn't have the encapsulation problem. I would also question if a cheek implant would feel completely natural or if you would always be able to tell that it's there.

On the other hand, if that's you in the avatar, the surgery came out really well and I'm not really sure you need additional work.

Hello, I had fat transferred to my temples and lips during FFS. The fat did not survive at my temples which can be an issue. My lips are fine and perhaps the very plump lips was just swelling after the FFS. Now I occasionally get compliments from woman. I like my lips.

I had a BA and as Dina stated you will get encapsulation of the prosthetic (it is a foreign body). An issue is capsular contraction which is scar tissue and it contracts. It needs to be broken up. In some cases the implant is removed and the site needs to heal before a reattempt can be done. I did not have any issues and my cohesive silicone feels natal.

You look wonderful, may I ask who you went to for FFS?

Markie, if your surgeon is skilled, maybe fat transfer is okay. I had a bad complication with fat transfer to my checks. I paid my money, got no result in the desired area and to top it off the fat traveled to a spot under my eye leaving me a very ugly bulge. The surgeon took no responsibility so I had to find Dr. Papel in Baltimore to remove it. He did nice work. There is a risk either way. I would never do fat graft in my face again.
Good luck.

I'm another vote for the fat.  The implants are always fake looking and as uou age the skin thins and they become scare.   If the fat doesn't all survive you can pus some radiesse or more fat on top of it.  The good thing about that is that you can use local providers for that and stuff like botox.

I had fat implants in my cheeks.. it helped some... but if you expect a huge difference get a bigger graft. It'll recede by at least 30% within a couple months.

Thanks Maria  yes  initially i had fillers before anything , but true about being able to top up ....my work takes me to remote locations so i cant really risk complications....

Thanks Doreen  yes i noitced with the fat tranfer how it diminishes ...i had my lips done and what with the swelling and transfer ...i was hoping it would not stay like that ....but now the reabsorbtion  has occurred  i could do with some more ....maybe i wont need so much in the cheeks as the face.lift will tighten up around my cheek bones
