Title: Hey everyone, I’m Jacey
Post by: Jacey Jones on April 21, 2018, 06:55:05 PM
Hi,

It's nice to meet everyone.  I read a few posts before registering and I'm excited to join such a friendly and helpful community.

I'm a 44-year old trans woman.  I'm pre everything and still in the closet to all but a couple of close friends.  I live in a conservative city in a liberal state.

I have been seeing an amazing therapist for a few weeks now, and every session has been helpful in discovering and becoming the real me.  Things have begun changing quickly since beginning therapy which has been a little scary and very exhilarating.

I am excited to ask questions and discuss triumphs and obstacles I encounter on my journey.
I also hope someday to be helpful to others as soon as I have figured enough of myself out.

Thanks for reading my intro & I look forward to meeting you!

Thanks Alyssa!  I can't agree more!  I have to admit that I am a bit nervous that by the time I am able to safely transition and undergo HRT that it won't be as effective as I would like it to be.  That's a bit down the road for me though.

Greetings Jacey!  I'm glad you found a good therapist, seems like those can be hard to come by unfortunately :(

It's awesome that you have some supportive friends, too! Honestly, I think you're further along than I am, actually! xD

No one knows about me besides all you fine ladies(and gentlemen) but it's so exciting that it's hard to contain myself and I just charged right in lol Within a few weeks, I am gesturing like a woman, talking like one, I tuck everyday(never going back to boy's underwear again xD), have a shaving rotation/schedule that i follow, as well as a workout routine(thinking of adding some Yoga into it soon), changed diet, went freaking cold turkey on soda(its just empty calories that rot your teeth and give you health issues, imo), have a whole beauty regimen(that used to be non-existent as a dude), and try to wear a bit of makeup everyday(but not enough that people I know can see that I'm wearing makeup)

BUt it's really dangerous to go jumping into things without some guidance. I am excited to see a therapist early May(my first visit) I already talked to them and they seem really nice, and were recommended by pro-trans organizations in my area!

Even if you haven't done that much(ive never worn a dress, but hearing you ladies talk about it, makes me really excited to try that next) what I think you really need to be mindful of is doing too much at once.  Just progress a little bit each day toward your goal.  For instance, I started with voice, then a few days later walking, then shaving, etc. And you continue to improve in all areas the longer you do em!  ;D

Also, this is a tip no one explained to me, and maybe I'm dumb but if you have an electric razor and have NEVER shaved your legs, use that first before "actually" shaving with your preferred method.  I ruined some razors and have a ton of ingrown hairs down there to deal with now(for weeks!) >.<

Thanks for the tips!

I tuck but don't tape.  Since I still present as male, I'm not worried about popping out.  I have also changed my diet and began exercising.  Trying to lost the male belly so that when the eventuality comes that I undergo HRT, I won't have a belly to worry about.  I switched to drinking just water myself.  I also  a shaving schedule and skin, nail and hair regimens.  I do not wear make-up yet.

Congrats on scheduling an appointment with a therapist.  Mine has been extremely helpful.  I hope yours is as well.

Thanks, Jacey!  Yeah, don't tape! ouff, painful! I found a great resource for tucking(and shaving) with a youtuber called Delia Melody.  I don't use a gaff, I taped for awhile, but it really irritated my skin and didn't hold very well :/

Seems like, to me, makeup starts with concealer(for the stubble), foundation, and then a powder that 'sets' the foundation to stay and not rub off so easily.  That's really as far as you need to go, but if you want to go farther(and I'm sure you do, I know I do!) then get those down first, and add 1 thing at a time until you're a master artiste!  ;D (like contouring, highlighting, eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick of course lol)

Jacey,

I must admit that I am also  somewhat concerned about how well HRT will work for me, being in my forties. However, at some point I realized I would rather be an "unattractive" (whatever that really means) girl than a stud on the cover of a Harlequin romance any day of the week. That chilled me out some haha.

Thanks for the tips! :)  I think I'll play with makeup as soon as I decide to start presenting as female.  I'll defieneitly keep concealer in mins when I do.
For now, working with my therapist.  We just finished discussing the politics of the Trans world and the difference between the die-hard old schoolers vs the new trans crows.

Hoping to start HRT sometime soon.  We'll see.

You're farther along than I am.  I am still caught up in the superficial (in myself, not others).
I'm still working on accepting me for me.  I also am working through some dysphoria.
