Title: need a surgeon in Philly
Post by: OtokoSuki on December 25, 2007, 10:07:09 PM
Hi everyone, I am currently searching for surgeons who deals with f2ms in the Philadelphia area. Do any of you even live in the area?  I already googled it many times but can't seem to have any luck...I just want to get rid of these breasts asap....Plus I overheard my family talking that if I make this change they wouldn't even look at my face nor would they have anything to do with me. But now I don't give a damn because I was always alone. Anyways, I am glad I got all of you.

Hi, Otoko,

I might be able to point you in some useful directions.

Contact Dr. Sherman Leis (I'll check that spelling of the name if you can't find him).  I understand that this doc came to speak in a meeting of the Metro Area Gender Identity Connection (MAGIC).  This is a TS support group in the Washington, DC area to which I once belonged.

I suggest that you find the group in Yahoo and post a question as to what they thought of Dr. Leis.

Alternatively, I suppose that any plastic surgeon in the Philadelphia area who does breast reductions will understand what you need.

Please let me know if I can further assist you.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your suggestion WingWalker, I emailed to some plastic surgeons and I hope they reply with positive answers...I know I probably sound very impatient to this but from the way I bind I really need this surgery..and I am that desperate that I am looking for someone close to my home instead of one of the best/known surgeons...It's because there is noone who is willing to take me anywhere since there is noone who accepts me.  I am not going to bother making them understand anymore but "is it crazy to want happiness?" Anyways do you think that would affect my overall result because I am considering ANY surgeons?

I have seen what happens when someone picks *any* surgeon and it's not always nice.  Not every surgeon is board-certified in their specialty nor are they without lawsuits over malpractice or mis-practice.

If I was seeking a breast reduction to the point of a removal I would ask myself what results I really want.  Is it possible to save my nipples and do I want them?  How bad will the scarring be and can I accept it on my body?  How long will it take to heal if done by "this" procedure as opposed to "that?"  What will I lose in supporting muscle and lymph nodes?

Otoko, you might get more than one answer to these questions.  You need to take your time in choosing a surgeon.  You and the surgeon get only one shot at doing it right the first time.

Shop patiently.

I hope that this helps.

If you are looking for FtM top surgeons my advice is to go to Beverly Fischer in Maryland.  She is not that far from Philly.
She is one of the best for top surgeries from what I heard.

Leis is in Philly, but he primarily works on people of the MtF spectrum.

have you checked out transster?

Fischer is one of the best, supposedly she has the top bedside manner of the best surgeons.

I'm a bit late with this post.  I had my MtoF surgery with Dr. Leis.  He was great.  He does MtoF & FtoM.  While I was there a guy was getting his FtoM GRS done.  I don't know what I would have done without the support of his girlfriend and the friends who came to visit him from Texas.

If you want to know more about Dr. Leis you can send me a PM.  His contact info is on this sites list of surgeons.  https://www.susans.org/Sex_Reassignment_Surgery/FTM_Surgeons/

Otoko:

My surgeon is Dr. Christine McGinn at the Papillon Gender Wellness Institute in Doylestown PA. Here is the link:
http://drchristinemcginn.homestead.com/ (http://drchristinemcginn.homestead.com/)
The website is a bit sparse but she will be glad to answer any questions you may have.

She is performing my MTF GRS for me next month but she performs FTM as well.  She is confident, caring and understanding.  Feel free to contact her.

I actually sent Dr. McGinn an email yesterday.  If I don't hear back from them, I'm going to call today.  My goal is to have SRS this Spring or Early Summer, so I don't want to get caught waiting for information.  Though since both of you ladies are having Dr. McGinn as your surgeon, I would be curious to know what you think of her skill as a surgeon, as well as how long she has been performing SRS.

I know it's pushing it, but I would also like to chat over the phone if possible.  We all have busy schedules though so it's okay otherwise.  If you wouldn't mind though, you can email me at kirakero@sbcglobal.net

Thank you so much!

Kirakero:

I'm less than two weeks away from my surgery and you can expect that I am getty pretty busy right now with preparations.  If you want to PM me with questions and such I'd be happy to answer them.

Following my procedure though, I should be able have more time to talk.

Good luck with your surgery ^^~

Right now I can't view profiles or send PM's, for whatever reason... soo.  I don't know.

Yes, Kirakero, you have to make fifteen posts before you can PM or view profiles and set an avatar.  It's Susans' rule.  It helps reduce the lurkers.

I'll send you an email when I get home tonight.

-Sandy (or you just post like mad...)

I was just wondering if you were able to find a surgeon and able to have your top surgery done.  I hope you were able to find someone to bring you.

Not sure right place to ask this, but I am in the Pittsburgh area and wondering if there any closer to here than those around Philly.  For F2M of course.  just wanting to see so can plan ahead.

He was actually one of my choices - the other one is Dr. McGinn also in PA. I'm able to communicate with someone from youtube who went to him. He was happy with his result.  But I was also in contact with someone who wasn't happy at all. According to him, he will more than likely need to go back for revisions (the areola & nipple are too big and the nipples are uneven).  On the good side he said, Dr. Leis is very reasonable and will work with you on pricing and that he was always available when he contacted him. Do you know what happen to the dude you were talking about?

How about Dr. McGinn, have you heard anyone who had top surgery with her?

his chest looks like hell.  uneven scars, nipples of different sizes and not even, a seroma and a hematoma and nasty dog ears.  basically he has every complication or undesirable outcome all at once.

i know mcginn, in a tandem surgery with the pioneer of some super ZOMG fantastic technique, managed to put four separate fistulas in some guy's junk.  as for her top surgeries, i haven't seen any.  i have seen her headshot, and as an aside she's pretty hot.  otherwise, no.

Oh wow! That's scary! It's really tough searching for a surgeon especially when you are limited financially. I mean if money wasn't the object, I could take off work (or quit) go to any surgeon I want without worries but since I have to work around job schedule, I can't just take off especially if a revision is needed. I really hope this will work out for me that I won't be needing any revision.

To me, there is no sense in looking for bargain surgery.  you've got to live with it for the rest of your days, so take as long as needed to save for your surgeon of choice.

You have point! I mean, it's better to pay more and done right the first time than pay less and then need a revision or worse, it can't get fix. although paying more doesn't really guarantee that it's going to be done right. Anyway, I have setup an appointment with Dr. McGinn next week, I'll see how it goes.

$$$ =/= better.  you're right.  But $$$ gives you the ability to travel to a surgeon outside your area, gives you the freedom to take more time off to heal, etc.
